I enjoy reading. Understandably, there are many authors whom I admire (as well as a few whom I detest, Christopher Paolini, but we won't go there). There are authors who help me grow as a writer, who help me grow as a thinker, who help me grow as a person. There have been millions of writers in this world, and hundreds of them have changed my life forever.

There are only two authors I would give my left hand to be able to have lunch with, however.

Neither of these authors have particularly wonderful styles. Neither of them have a way with words that makes me question my own. Neither of them are particularly original in their premises. Neither of them are Tolkien, which may shock those who know me well.

What these writers do have are intelligent plots and strong women, and, boy, do they have them in spades. At least I'm aware of my priorities in life.

For the curious, the writers are Timothy Zahn, who not only fixed everything broken with the Star Wars universe but also made better those things that were already good, and Hiromu Arakawa, who showed me the emotional heights to which a truly well-thought out plotline can carry a reader.

I have not read all the works by these respective writers, although I plan to do so. But simply reading cannot teach me how to craft a plotline, how to bring in unused characters, how to tie together dfferent character arcs; in short, to keep my own stories as clean, detailed, and intriguing as their own.

... So, I basically just wanted to write a post glorifying the love I have for Zahn and Arakawa. If you haven't read either of them, GO. DO IT. NOW.
