So the 1/4 tribe of Levi is from a grandparent whose last name was/is Levine or Levin or Levinson or something of that nature?

last name does not indicate tribe. it runs through the father, just like last name, and usually ppl with the aformentioned last names are levites but there are many many more ppl who trace back to levites than just ppl with teh levi in their names. its a long explanation but you can google to find out more 411 on the cohanim (cohen) levites etc
