Wow, just wow.
So I maintain a MySpace account because a few friends use that instead of LJ. A little bit of looking around on MySpace was enough to convince me that it's a cesspit of mouth-breathing savages. I bring this up now because every few weeks I get a sudden barrage of half a dozen "Friend Requests" from random people. About a quarter of them are from bands trying to get exposure, but all of the rest are sleezy attempts to get you to go to some porn or cam site. They all use the same wording in the bio. They all say they just moved to your town and are looking for cool people to hang out with. They all feature a profile picture of some hot young woman, and they all include a link to the site that they're trying to promote.
Whatever, I get a chuckle out of it and deny the request. However, today I noticed that these phishers are actually getting hundreds of hits. The last one I got had like 800 friends already. A quick scan through the comments included a whole lot along the lines of "hey sexy, hows it goin, u want 2 hook up?" and "hey, thanks for the add. you look like a cool and interesting person." It boggles the mind; it really does. Every time I start to forget what complete blithering idiots most of the human race are, I get a nice little reminder like this.
