SUMMARY: So like. Jonghyun always knew Jinki was kind-of-somewhat desperate, but not this desperate.
WARNINGS: none...?

And, so. It’s kind of obvious that something is wrong when Jinki gets a girlfriend, Jonghyun remembers musing to Minho and Taemin.

Minho’s “What’s wrong with that?” is still vividly remembered, and Taemin’s ‘I-think-you’re-kind-of-crazy’ look is implanted in his mind.

But no. Something really is up. And it’s really, really bothering Jonghyun. He has a couple reasons for it, too. Usually, Jonghyun is exactly the type to come up with random conclusions, but he could swear that his thoughts are legit this time. First of all, Jinki has a girlfriend.

That’s not normal.

Second of all, no one has ever met this girl. Well. Minho has no interest in meeting her, and Taemin could care less. But Jonghyun was a bit too curious. But every time, “No, she has exams today” or “No…her mom is sick…” And how many times does her mother get sick, anyways? Eight times a month is a little out of the ordinary. Well, besides the fact they’ve only been dating for two.

But we’re missing the point here.

“Jonghyun-ah, do you remember what the formula for the distance from the central line to the first order yellow band is? It was like… two, negative something?…Jonghyun?”

“W-what? I, uh…what are we doing?”

“…We’re in Physics. Doing classwork.”

Jonghyun scoffs, “Yeah, classwork I don’t know. Why am I in honors with you, again?”

Jinki sighs, “Because, like. The teacher last year had a crush on you, or something. I really don’t think she looked at the Chemistry work you did.”

“Oh. Well. Hyung, can I please meet your girlfriend?”

“Say what? N-no! It’s a weekday, and like…I have a test tomorrow, I need to study!”

“Jinki, we’re in all of the same classes. We have no test tomorrow.” He goes to his last resort - whining. “But whyyy? Are you scared she’ll like me instead or something? ‘Cause you know, I wouldn't blame her. I am fine.”

“She wouldn’t like a player like you!”

Jonghyun bounces up and down stubbornly like a two-year-old. “Can’t you just text her or something? Please, I really want to see her!”

And so Jinki sighs, sliding his cellphone out of his pocket. He punches in the message, clicks send, and shoves it back into his pocket.

He doesn’t get a reply until lunch time, when his phone makes a loud beeping noise. Jonghyun scolds him for not having a cool ringtone. Jinki explains to Jonghyun on how she’s having a study session with her friends today, and it’s no good.

However, when the weekend comes, it strikes Jonghyun as odd when he decides to be a horrible roommate and listen in on Jinki's phone call from his girlfriend. Because, even though he’s listening, he doesn’t hear anything.

Jinki’s low voice on the phone, in the other room, is easily heard. Then there’s a random rush of silence, and it’s broken by Jinki laughing. Apparently this mute girlfriend said a joke? Jonghyun doesn’t even know. Maybe they speak in code. Then he frowns. See, that’s where the problem is. She isn’t speaking.

There’s no sound coming from the other end of the phone.

But Jonghyun is too ‘nice’ to tell Jinki about his discovery. Because, well, Jinki can clearly hear her. It’s weird, and Jonghyun almost thinks there’s something with himself, but then he remembers who he’s talking about. So he brings this information to Minho and Taemin.

“Hyung, you’re overreacting,” is all Minho says.

Taemin follows with, “Besides, maybe you weren’t actually listening from the phone.”

“But I heard his voice through the thing, and not hers! It was almost like he was talking to himself.”

“Hyung, admit it. You’re a creepy stalker.”

“But I’m not!”

Minho finally sighs, putting his book down. “Hyung, if you’re that curious, just follow them on a date, or something.”

Jonghyun pauses, blinking.

Then he starts whining again.

“Will you come with me then, Minho-yah? Please don’t tell me you’re not interested - I know you are!”

Minho rolls his eyes, “What’s so interesting?”

Jonghyun frowns, “Jinki has a girlfriend. That lasted more than two weeks.”

“I really don’t care.”

Which is exactly why two days later, Jonghyun, Taemin, and Minho find themselves in the park that Jinki had stated he was going to.

“Why are we here again?” Taemin asks, frowning.

“Because someone said that they would come with me to see Jinki’s girlfriend!”

Taemin only sighs. “Yeah, well. The exit is right over there, you kno-”

Jonghyun squeals, “Oh look! There he is!”

It seems to be a little more than odd when Jinki walks by smiling and talking to a person that seems to resemble no one.

Jonghyun’s gaping. Minho just stares. Taemin raises an eyebrow, staring the nonexistent couple. They watch Jinki laugh loudly and take his hand out of his pocket. Then, he entwines his hand with, from what the three can see, thin air.

So, usually, Taemin would snort and make some sarcastic comment, but this is a bit…overboard. At least, that’s what the three boys are currently thinking.

Minho breaks the silence, a feat not done quite often. “So, um. That’s…kind of awkward.”

Taemin nods. “Is he dating himself or something?”

Jonghyun rolls his eyes. “He’s not that desperate.” And then he stops and thinks - another feat not done often. “Or, um. He could be. Seeing as his last girlfriend…Kyuyeon, or something, texted him a break up.”

Taemin winces, “Oh, that’s not the best idea.”

They’re staring at Jinki for another two or three minutes, before Jonghyun taps them both on the shoulder and hisses, “Okay, let’s go. I’ve had enough freaky for a whole month.”
