So, there was the welcome-to-the-month-of-June LJ News post last night - In which they announced that they're selling permanent accounts for one day only for $150 next week. Hurray for all the people who post in every single news post "When are you next selling permanent accounts?", right? Wrong! I skimmed through the comments and was very surprised to see that every other comment was "that's way too much, that sucks, you need to lower the price." Wow. Greedy/illogical much? No, they don't need to lower the price. It doesn't benefit them to lower it to a price where everyone can afford it. Permanent accounts don't benefit LJ economically! They're doing this to be nice! (Don't benefit them economically, that is, unless someone buys a permanent account and then abandons it before they've reached their value in ordinary paid time, 4 years. Which I'm assuming is why these people are complaining - they don't think 4 years+ of paid time is worth it to them. Therefore, a permanent account is not for them!) The point is, those who think it's worth it will buy it, and there will be people who think $150 is worth it. It's not supposed to be worth it for everybody. It's not worth it to me (who knows if I'll still be here in four years?) but I'm not complaining because that's supply and demand. Those who value a permanent account at $150 will buy it, and those who don't won't, and LJ doesn't owe them any sort of lower price. It's generally considered good business to respond to "Lower your price or I won't buy your product," with, "Well, I guess you won't be buying it then. Be seeing you!"
Just my two cents. This from the girl who's currently not even willing to shell out for an ordinary paid account, but hey.
rant,
