So, this was a fairly awesome week, if I do say so myself. Saturday and Sunday were spent moving out and cleaning up the old appt. Thankfully, I have friends in Coralville that let me store my stuff there, so I didn't have to take it all the way up to CR and then back down again.
Monday saw dad dropping me off at the airport, to catch the flight out to Chicago to then head out to Vancouver. The flight out was short and uneventful. I sat next to Kim, who is a consultant for a company in Cedar Rapids, and was flying out to California to consult out there. She was really nice, and helped point me in the right direction for my next flight when I had no clue how to get out there.
The flight from Chicgo to Vancouver was also quite uneventful. I spent most the time playing on my brand new DS, and reading books. I sat next to a couple of Australian guys, one of whom lived in Hong Kong, and the other really was from Australia.
We arrived in Vancouver safely, and I was quite surprised at how alien and unwelcoming it seemed - if you come in from an international flight, they have you walk on these walkways that're 20 feet up, and you don't see _anyone_ except for people from your flight for quite a while. It was a little unnerving.
Vancouver was damn beautiful. I wish I had had more time to wander around, see the sights, and whatnot. As it was, the university was only paying for me to stay those two days, so any more time would have come out of my own pocket - and I don't have that much that I can spend. :-(
The conference went pretty well. The paper that Dr. Jones and I submitted was well-received. Some of the critiques we had was that we went after one of the smallest pieces of the entire puzzle. The kudos went something along the lines of "This is like using a nuclear bomb to kill an ant! Effective, but way too much!"
And as work is over, this post will be expanded later on, when I have internet again.
