"Summonsed?" Is that a word?

So I was scheduled for jury duty tomorrow morning (joy!) after having postponed it, twice. This third time around my personal schedule was a lot more open (finally) and I thought to myself, "fine, screw it, let's just get this over with already." However, I just checked my juror status online and recieved the following truly glorious and wonderful message: "You do not have to report for jury service; however you may be summonsed again within the next ninety days."

YES! I love love LOVE that message. I also love that I can do all of this crap online and not have to punch 40 different numbers into a telephone just to get the same information. And that "90 day" stuff? Never happens.

I'm really amazed, btw, because I never expected to get this lucky a second time. A few years ago I was summoned and the same thing happened. Prior to that I've shown up twice, wasted four or five hours of my life doing nothing, and THEN was excused, once by a judge and once by BOTH lawyers.

So, big relief.

And I guess now I have to go to work tomorrow.

In other news, I believe it can be safely stated (yet again) that the world has gone insane and the apocalypse must be near. Now, there are many reasons why this is undoubtedly so, but this one is my current pick. As a life-long Californian, born and raised, this issue and these marches piss me the hell off, so much so that I can't even listen to the news anymore.

This is absolutely insane.

On the upside, though, I filed my taxes the other night and the refund I'll be getting, while not huge, should be enough to pay off the balance on my credit card, which is freaking fantastic. ::phew::

crazy world, taxes, jury duty
