His partner was assiduously searching through the massive reports- a manic light in his eyes. Not wanting to interrupt (correctly determining input from him regarding the apparent disorganization could get ugly), he went to his own desk, clearing space for his work and sweeping discarded papers into the elephant-shaped vessel they used for trash.
Silence descended.
Then impatient tapping from the other desk.
Finally his partner blurted, “You didn’t need to be spiteful.”
“I didn’t romance the Spider.”
Silence.
Lips quirked involuntarily. “You look swotty.”
“Huh?”
“Never mind, Napoleon, the microdot is safe.”
The reports hit the door, scattering papers!
