43. Beyond the Hanging Wall by Sara Douglass
44. Dracula by Bram Stoker
45. Draco Dormiens by Cassie Clare (okay, so it’s fan fiction, but it’s good fan fiction…)
It’s been a while since I last updated. Since then I have started my new job. I think I may have mentioned it, perhaps? I can’t remember. Anyway, I’ve been working at the National Library of Australia for nearly 3 weeks now. Seems strange that I haven’t updated to spread the great news. Been too busy with school assignments - last one gets sent off tonight! Then it’s a week off, where I can focus on, you guessed it, more assignments. *sigh* It’s times like these I wish I was back in high school. No job to worry about, no rent, no bills, homework wasn’t really that important… Ah well.
So yes, I’ve been at the NLA, or the Nash as some people call it, for a while now. It was so exciting to hear that I got the job. I’m on a 12 month contract, but now that I’m in the building, it will be easier for me to move somewhere else once the contract is up - or if I’m lucky, it will get renewed.
I’m working in Manuscripts as a “collection delivery officer”. But this translates to mean “stack attendant”. Hehe. Readers will come to our reading room and request material. So, if I’m rostered on to retrieve (at least one shift a day) I take the request and go fetch the material. Then I bring it to the reading room and that’s it til the next retrieval. They’re done every half hour. So if there’s nothing else to do once I’ve got the material - I often browse the net or do other stuff. >.> Usually there’s another one of my tasks to do, but lately it’s been really quiet. I’m glad my iPhone has books on it. I sit it next to my computer and read stuff sometimes. Though I can request library books - there’s a whole bunch of stuff that’s available to me now that I’m a staff member. Awesome.
The people I work with are great too. I’m the youngest, but only by a few years I think. There’s about four people under 30 including me. The rest are from then onwards. But everyone is so nice, they held a morning tea for me on my first day which was nice. Then the next week, we had another one for another guy who moved to the section from cataloguing. I made fudge as requested, and I think I’ll have to make some every time we have a morning tea. Hehe. There’s only two guys in manuscripts, although there’s an older guy who volunteers - he comes in a few days a week.
I’m really happy here. It’s a great location - right on Lake Burley Griffin, so good views from the windows. Free parking - which is very good. :D I’m getting paid a lot more than I used to get at Woolies. So good things all round.
Hmmm, what else is new? T came first in his advanced competition at puppy school, so he got a blue ribbon and he’s now considered a “good companion”. Underdog has been put up into Intermediate, so hopefully he will do as well come competition day.
I’ll have to upload some pics we took last weekend. Speaking of pictures, Daniel took a whole bunch of pics when we got to see inside our house a couple of weeks ago. We’ll get to go inside again this weekend, and our kitchen should be done, and perhaps some of the tiling. :D It’s very exciting. Still no settlement date yet, so we’re hanging out to find out when we can move in.
Oh, and we also have a new housemate for the next couple of months. She’s a friend of a friend of a friend, lol. She’s really cool - she’s the same age as us, loves books and Stargate. So we’re getting along fine.
