Today’s topic is easier; my favourite birthday so far must be my seventeenth. It was a good one, because I finally had friends again who wanted to eat cake with me. (I’m very sure that my childhood b-days were all great; they ended with my 12th when I had a masquerade - I was an Egyptian queen - but all of that is overshadowed by the depressing ones that followed, but the spring of 1997 was one of the happiest times of my life.)
Hmm, but now that I think about it, I don’t know if I have many details to tell. It was not a big party, it was just Marielle, Ingrid, Maria and me, but I didn’t want it any other way, I was perfectly happy like that. (Later in life I’ve felt that it would be fun to have a big party with lots of people, but I guess I wouldn’t quite know how to handle it because the last time was so long ago…)
We ate lasagne, I think… and it’s not unlikely that the cake had strawberries. We watched a horror movie (Ingrid’s choice…) but it was very bad so after a while we just had the video on while we talked about other things.
That’s really all the details I can remember. What I remember is that I was happy just because it was my birthday and my friends were there. After that I’ve had other good b-days, and less good ones, but it still happens that Marielle says “do you remember that crappy movie?” and we laugh, because the fact is that we don’t remember anything about it, except that it became such a joke between the four of us…
memories,
meme of great details,
