Of Mixed Blood

This is the story of Ash, my Fey character, I've waited a while to introduce her. I want to see what other people think of her.

Of Mixed Blood

~*~*~

“There it goes,” Cinder whispered from her perch and I nodded at my sister as I wove the illusion around us tighter thought it was unnecessary. The small Spider Goblin was scurrying its way through the Forest of the Underground with minor purpose. “Do you doubt that it is the one?”

“It’s obviously on a mission,” I commented as Cinder began to move after our target.

“Where do you think the ugly little thing is going?” she asked and I smirked.

“Remember, dear Sister, you and I are only a generation removed from that creature,” I fought not to laugh. Cinder gave me a look, her neon blue eyes shining in the dark and I smiled at her, knowing my eyes mirrored hers.

“Ash, you must remember we are Ladies of the Sidhe Court,” she stated with a superior snort and I did laugh.

“Aye, we earned the title of Lady on our own power, but in our blood we are Spider Goblin, Seelie Sidhe, and human, we must never forget ourselves dear sister,” I chided her as I leapt out of the tree we were in. We landed silently next to each other. Not that my illusion would do much good, since Spider Goblins are the only ones that can see through any illusion spell.

“We earned the title of Lady,” Cinder said in a dark tone and I looked at my younger sibling.

“We will never be viewed as pure Sidhe Ladies, Cinder, you know that,” I sighed as I reached out and Cinder hesitated before reciprocating, gripping my wrist in her hand as I gripped hers. Her copper hair, the color of a dying flame, shone even in the darkness of her cloak.

“We have earned the title,” Cinder hissed again as she stared at my blue-gray skin under her pearlescent fingers.

“Aye, we have earned it, but the Sidhe have never accepted someone just because they could earn a title, they must be made to accept,” I added as I squeezed Cinder’s wrist before continuing. I could scent the Spider Goblin and I blinked in surprise. “Well, well, a male Spider Goblin. A mature one at that, I guess he is wise enough not to seek a mate among his kind.”

“Too bad he is going to meet his death at the hands of two partial Spider Goblin females,” Cinder hissed. I looked at her then. There was eagerness to my sister’s tone that shocked me. “Let us take our time finding out his purpose.” I let my sister take the point on this. She was more suited for bringing in a captive alive where as I was better at….encouraging a captive to talk.

My Sidhe-blooded name is Ash, my sister’s Sidhe-blooded name is Cinder; we   are the children of the Half-Sidhe, Star-child, and the Half-Goblin, Fanged-doll. Our parents are both half-human. We were raised in the Sidhe Court since it was the Sidhe who won that last Sidhe-Goblin war. Our father gave up his home in the Goblin Court to be with our mother. Their love has caused quite a ruckus in all the Courts of the Underground.

The mixing of Goblin and Sidhe power usually creates creatures that neither court fully accept and usually end up among the Slaugh, as an appetizer. However, the combination of human with Goblin and Sidhe resulted in my sister and me. The magics that rule the Underground blended Cinder and I into the perfect merging of the three beings.

My sister is the illusion of Sidhe beauty, her hair like fire, her skin like moonlight, and her vibrant eyes. However, my sister’s hair is like steel wool, her skin is as hard as sharkskin, and her lovely eyes are four times the normal number with six upon her face and two in the back of her head.

I am the illusion of Goblin beauty, my hair like the blackest oil, my skin like the purest ash, and my eyes full, void of any white. However, my hair is like silk, my skin like velvet, and my eyes only number two.

From our human blood, I do not know what gifts we were given, but from our Sidhe and Goblin, I know much. From our Sidhe blood, we’ve been given power over magic, especially power over fire, and the gift of art. My magics are among the most powerful to ever grace the Sidhe court, my gift over Cinder. We both are among the best artisans as well. I can weave and work cloth like few others while Cinder can carve, smelt, and sculpt anything from rock to metal.

From our Goblin blood, we have been given great strength, poison, and the tools to deliver our poison. Cinder is among the physically strongest in all the court, her gift over me. We both have poison of the Spider Goblins. Cinder’s poison is a powerful acid that in an oxygen rich environment can melt most materials but inside a living creature can liquidate the internal structures while turning the skin into an airtight bag of leather. For her poison Cinder is graced with eight fangs, two so long they hang past her chin like a sabered-cat. My poison is a powerful neurotoxin, capable of knocking a full grown Red Cap on his ass for several days. For my poison I am graced with but four, small fangs, as those of the vampires. We are both graced with black talons, Cinder’s are like a dog’s and always present while mine are like a cat’s, hidden in the tips of my fingers under my human-like black nails until I wish to use them.

We were separated when we were children, I was given to the great magicians of the Sidhe court while Cinder was given to the Slaugh. I was taught by the great tricksters of the Sidhe world, two creatures who had earned their title of Lord in the Sidhe Court. Lord Puck, Satyr trickster who had fooled our King into letting him earn a place in court, and Anansi, the Spider Goblin that tricked a Sidhe Noblewoman into marrying him and who also happened to be the half-brother of our father. Cinder was given to the Slaugh and we had mourned as if she had been killed, but when Cinder returned for celebrations for the court my family knew a dark joy, even the Slaugh wanted nothing to do with Cinder’s death. My baby sister is too strong for even the Slaugh’s gullets.

Cinder moved like a shadow through the Forest of the Underground and I followed as swiftly and silently. I could smell the musky undertone of the Spider Goblin’s scent and I wondered if this was the season for Goblin Spider mating.

“I’ve lost him,” Cinder hissed and I blinked in surprise, it was unlike Cinder to lose a target. I was quick to cast a spell, sure enough Spider Goblin magic was in the air, the clever creature had woven his scent into others to hide himself. Too bad my magic was better.

“I’ve got it,” I quickly took point and rushed through the forest. We had to move quickly now because the Spider Goblin knew we were coming.

We were twin figures in dark cloaks rushing through the foliage; both of us agile enough that we were leaping off the sides of the trees without touching the ground. Cinder practically started purring and I looked back at her.

“What ails you?” I asked and she laughed, it was a strange noise.

“I can smell him now,” she cooed and I nodded, his scent was slipping free of the spell, he was obvious confident enough to believe that he was only being tracked by someone with a strong sense of smell.

“We need him alive Cinder,” I chided carefully. My eyes quickly began looking for the movement of the Spider Goblin. I would have to use a very delicate and strong spell to capture him, especially if Cinder was set off balance.

“I won’t forget that, Sister!” Cinder hissed and I stared at her for the tone. She sounded defensive and angry, I didn’t like this and I quickly began to scan the forest for magic. As I did that I caught a slight movement from the corner of my eye, I didn’t make any indication of it as I looked at Cinder.

“Split up,” I hissed as I launched left of the movement, as predicted Cinder moved in my mirror and I was quick to launch myself up higher in the trees. Anansi had once confessed to me that Spider Goblins were arrogant and often left their flanks unguarded. This Spider Goblin was cautious, I would bet he’d give up his dorsal attention to pay attention to his flanks.

Cinder was loud as she moved and I wondered if she was doing so purposely or due to whatever was unsettling her. I didn’t bother paying much attention to it as I watched the forest floor, sure enough the floor moved and I could finally make out the Spider Goblin from the actual forest floor. I didn’t hesitate with my spells, a quick paralysis spell followed by a binding spell left my fingers and my lips.

“Lady forgive me!” the Spider Goblin screamed as I dropped before him, he went to move only to find that he was incapable of doing so. I stared at him, I could not detect anything strange about him to cause the change in Cinder. I opened to my Goblin side more, but still, I could scent the virile male before me, but nothing sent my mind reeling.

“What have you done to my kin?” I asked and he began to shiver.

“I, I have done nothing, Sidhe Lady,” he gasped and I could smell the nervousness. Those of the Faerie did not lie, but we could all bend the truth and we all knew that game.

“You speak too close to a lie,” I hissed and I knew that when he spoke of Lady when I caught him he did not mean me. “What has been done to you to bewitch my kin?” He shook in fear and the scent of it made me hungry.

“I may not speak it for she may kill me,” he whispered and I looked up. Cinder was coming back, I could see the flash of copper approaching. It was too careless of Cinder to lose her hood. I glared at the Spider Goblin.

“You shall tell me for your mistress may kill you, but I will keep you to torture you again and again. I ask not who your mistress is but what she has done!” I snarled extending my talons and plucking an eye from the Spider Goblin’s head. He screamed in pain as Cinder screamed in pain and I knew my sister was quite made. With a wave of my hand I placed a shield in place. Cinder could break my strongest shields, but it took her some time to do so.

“She bespelled my scent to call for one untried by Goblin heat!” the Spider Goblin sobbed and I stared at him. The Goblins were weak in magic and it was hell to try and enchant a Spider Goblin unless you were a Spider Goblin.

“What was the point?” I hissed as I plucked another eye free from his head as Cinder met the barrier and screamed in rage.

“It was known that it would be the Mixed Blood Sisters to come after a Goblin spy,” he squealed and I nodded.

“What of it,” I snarled and he looked at me with his remaining six eyes.

“My Mistress wished to see if you were more of the blood than you look!” he sobbed and I knew then who his mistress was. There is but one being that would want us to be more of her than of anything else, The Great Eight Soul Eater, the Grand Duchess of the Goblins and the most powerful of the Spider Goblins.

“You have found your answer, too bad you shan’t be sharing that news with your Duchess,” I hissed and the little Spider Goblin’s eyes widened in horror.

“No! No!” he shrieked and I began to rip him to pieces slowly and methodically. I took away limbs, legs could be torn away without a drop of blood loss, but it hurt like a bitch. I took out his remaining eyes. Cinder howled in rage and disappointment as I shoved a hand into his abdomen and ripped his claspers out, crushing them in my fist. I was pleased when I noticed that the removal and destruction of the male genitalia was resulting in Cinder’s struggles and agitation dropping.

“How…” the Spider Goblin choked on his own blood from where I had torn his fangs free.

“How did I know it was Duchess The Great Eight Soul Eater?” I asked and he managed to nod. “How could I not recognize my own grandmother’s work?” I crushed his skull and stood in the Forest of the Underground wondering why my father’s mother was suddenly interested in how close Cinder and I were to her blood.

“What happened?” Cinder’s voice asked shakily and I turned to look at my younger sister standing outside of my barrier. She looked quite confused and I felt my heart ache. Was this yet another difference between my sister and I? Was Cinder more Goblin and I more Sidhe?

“You were bewitched, Grandmother sent him,” I stated and Cinder’s eyes darkened. Neither of us was quite taken by The Great Eight Soul Eater and this news was not welcomed by either of us.

“What of the message?” Cinder asked and I looked at the Spider Goblin. With a wave of my hand his body opened like a roasted chicken. From his inside a spell message rose, it was horribly made but both Cinder and I could clearly make out the image of The Great Eight Soul Eater.

“Dear Granddaughters, I wish to invite you to join me in my home for All Hollows Eve, I hope you enjoyed my messenger,” she cackled before the spell began to dissipate and the two of us looked at each other.

“Do you think the King knows this whole thing was a trick by our father’s dame?” Cinder asked and I shook my head.

“I think it may be a mutual effort to see how our blood does flow. Either way we intercepted the message,” I stated as I watched the message’s remains floated up to the forest ceiling. “There it goes.”

Author's Note: The character The Great Eight Soul Eater has a story of her own, and the name is "The Great Eight Soul Eater" it is important in my cannon story for Ash.
