There was that odd sound again.
Luna Lovegood paused and cocked her head to the side, listening intently. It seemed to be coming from around the corner. As far as she knew, everyone in the castle had retired to their rooms and that she was the only one up at this late hour. Well, except for the ghosts of course, but since they were not solid, they could hardly be the source.
Standing around in the middle of the hallway wasn’t the most useful of actions, so Luna continued to walk forward until she finally reached the end of the corridor.
Ah, so that’s what was causing the noise.
Draco Malfoy was leaning against the large, dusty window. He was staring out at the black lake, fingertips drumming fitfully on the heavy glass.
Luna had been told - actually, warned - that he would be serving out his confinement period at Hogwarts. His parents were in Azkaban while their involvement with the Death Eaters was sorted out. Only Harry Potter’s sworn statement that Draco was an unwilling participant saved him from a similar fate.
She took a step towards him but Draco seemed unaware of her presence, lost in whatever thoughts were plaguing him that night. It would have been impolite to simply move on without acknowledging him, so Luna called out softly, “Hello Draco!”
The young man froze at the sound of her voice. Instead of turning around, he gazed warily at her reflection in the glass, the muscles in his back rippling with tension. Luna immediately recognized that he was expecting her to attack him. Well, she had to disabuse him of that idea. It would have been cruel otherwise.
“Professor McGonagall told me you’d be around.” She stepped around him and glanced out window. Slivers of moonlight danced on the surface of the lake and she wondered if the Giant Squid could use more valerian root for his insomnia. “I do love the view of the lake from here. Especially on nights when the moon’s out.”
There was a heavy pause before he answered her. “I guess so.” Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him glance at the brazier she held in her hands.
“It’s sage,” she said before he could even ask. “For a purification ceremony,” she added when he continued to stare blankly at her. “You’re more than welcome to come along, if you like.”
His grey eyes widened in surprise at her invitation, his mouth hanging open in shock. “I…uh…I’m not allowed to,” he said, his voice practically dripping with suspicion. “I mean, I’m not supposed to come near you.”
“Oh, that.” Luna shook her head at the memory of McGonagall’s lecture that afternoon. “Well, you needn’t worry about it. I’m sure you won’t harm me.”
The ache in her arms reminded her of her current task. After making a mental note to replace the brazier with something less heavy, Luna stepped back from the window.
“Sleep well, Draco,” she said softly as she walked away. She hoped that he realized that she truly meant it.

Luna was forced to admit that perhaps her plan was flawed. The plant was thoroughly denuded, and yet she barely had enough sage to cover the rest of the castle, not to mention the grounds. Far from being discouraged, she was quite confident that another solution would present itself.
Although, Luna considered as she surveyed the damaged greenhouse, it would probably be wise to find one that didn’t involve plants of any sort.

A little-used aisle in the library yielded a possible answer.
She studied the passage again. It could work, but she needed to move quickly as tonight was the last night of the full moon. Luna sat back in chair, chewing on the end of her quill as she mulled over her options. Well, there was really only one option available. How fortunate for her then, that he was sitting at a table three aisles down. Luna thought it was most auspicious.
So involved was Draco in writing his letter that he didn’t look up when the chair next to him scraped noisily against the stone floor. Luna managed to make out Dear mother before he shifted his arm to hide the rest of the letter from her.
“I know what you’re doing,” Draco said angrily as his quill continued to move at a furious pace over the parchment. “You’re trying to get me sent to Azkaban. Well it won’t work.”
He began to push back from the table when Luna laid her hand on his arm. “Don’t go, Draco. I just wanted to talk to you.”
He glared at her hand. For a second, Luna thought that he was going to shake her off but he simply let out a resigned sigh and slumped back in his seat.
Luna released him. “I’ve run out of sage,” she announced solemnly.
“So?” The corner of his mouth tipped up in amusement. It was probably the first time in many weeks that she’d seen him smile. “Maybe you can use basil instead.”
“I did think of that, but apparently basil isn’t as effective the farther north you are. I hear it works nicely in the southern hemisphere. I’ve got another idea.” She pulled out the dusty book and placed it in front of him. “Go on, read it.”
With a roll of his eyes, Draco turned his attention to the passage she’d indicated. When he finished, he simply pushed it back at her and said one word: “No.”
“But you have to,” she insisted. “You’re the only one who can help me.”
In her mind she was back in that dark cellar, pleading with a pale-faced boy who was more frightened than she was.
I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do for you.
Draco’s mouth twisted into a pained grimace, as if he knew exactly what she was thinking. He tore his gaze away from her, searching the bookcases above them for an answer. After a few moments, he sighed and said “Fine, I’ll do it.”
Luna gave a little clap and gently patted his shoulder as she stood up. “Thank you, Draco. I knew you would.”

She was pleased to find Draco waiting for her by the door leading up to the Astronomy Tower. However, he didn’t seem as equally happy to see her. “What are you up to, Luna?” he demanded, his eyes flashing with irritation and confusion as he stared at her face.
Perhaps she should’ve gone with red hair instead of black. “You don’t like it?” She removed the mask from her face and felt the glamour spell being lifted off her like a veil. “I thought that if I looked more like someone you knew-”
He raised his hand to cut her off her. “Let’s just get on with this.”
“Of course.” She discarded the mask before pushing open the door leading up to the outside landing. In her excitement, Luna practically flew up the spiral staircase and had to wait for Draco, who trudged up the steps reluctantly.
“So why do we have to do this outside?”
“The effect is more potent under direct moonlight.”
“Right.”
This was not entirely truthful. The text she’d consulted was uncertain about the effect of the season on the spell’s potency. Still, she felt that there was no need to mention that to Draco. He already had enough to worry about.
Luna sighed happily as she stepped out into the landing. This was, by far, one of her favorite places inside Hogwarts. The moon was full and bright tonight and the stars shone magnificently that it seemed as if she could just reach out and pluck one out of the sky.
“Isn’t it just so beautiful?”
Her smile faded slightly when she saw that Draco wasn’t beside her. She spun around and saw him lurking in the shadows by the doorway. So she marched back and tugged on his arm, dragging him out of the shadows and into the moonlight.
“Maybe this isn’t such a good idea,” he started to say, but Luna shook her head.
“It’ll be fine, Draco. Trust me.” She began to unbutton the top of her nightgown but the panicky look on his face made her stop. Perhaps he needed a little bit of help?
Pulling out the wand tucked into her sleeve, she summoned one of the wooden benches lined up against the wall. She must’ve added a bit more wrist movement, for the bench came flying at them rather fast, slamming into the backs of Draco’s thighs.
“Oomph!”
Luna shoved him onto the bench then fell to her knees in front of him. She unzipped his trousers and had his cock out before he could even protest.
"Wha-"
“I’m sure you’ll like this, Draco,” she said as she wrapped her fingers around him. “Well, I think you’re supposed to.” Luna had never been this close to a boy and she had to admit that she’d been looking forward to the experience. His cock felt nice and solid in her hand, and when she squeezed him gently, she was delighted to feel him twitch against her palm. “Now let’s see…just like eating ice-cream,” she murmured to herself before her tongue darted out to taste him.
Draco made such interesting noises in response to the movements of her mouth. Deep groans shook his chest when she tried to swallow as much of him as she could. Little hisses escaped from his lips when she nipped at the head of his cock with her teeth.
“Fuck, that feels…”
Draco lifted his hand to her hair, his fingers tangling into the long strands as she eagerly swirled her tongue all over him.
Perhaps she was a bit too enthusiastic.
“Wait, Luna…have to…stop…or else…” Draco moaned as he pulled back from between her lips, his eyes shut tight in concentration.
Luna sat back on her heels and waited for him to regain control of himself. While she watched him, her hand drifted down her stomach and slipped beneath her gown. Skipping underwear was definitely the right choice she thought as her fingers stroked over her flesh. When she lifted her head, she saw that Draco was watching her with a dark, glittering intensity that mirrored the night sky above him.
He suddenly leaned forward and hooked his arms around her waist, pulling her into his lap. He slowly traced the outline of her bottom lip with one finger before finishing the task she’d started earlier. Soon her nightgown was bunched around her hips and a Quidditch-roughened palm cupped her bare breast. Luna buried her sighs of pleasure against his neck as Draco lazily circled one nipple with his thumb. Heat was beginning to pool in the pit of her stomach.
“Hmmm…I like that.”
He chuckled lightly and Luna thought that she rather liked the sound of it. “Maybe you’ll like this even more?”
Draco shifted her around until she straddled him. Her breasts were now level with his head and took advantage of that by sucking a stiff nipple into his mouth. His hand skimmed the curve of her hip before dipping between her thighs to tease and explore.
“Oh,” she cried out softly as heat continued to twist and build inside her with every flick of his tongue and every stroke of his fingers against her slick folds.
“Draco,” she panted, “I- I think I’d like to…”
Without a word, he grasped her waist, his rigid cock brushing against her before sinking deep in one quick movement.
The pain surprised her. Though she had anticipated some kind of discomfort, she didn’t expect it to take her breath away.
“Are you okay?” he asked her, seemingly alarmed by the way her body stiffened in his arms.
“Just a moment.” She gave him a weak smile and took a few shuddering breaths, trying to regain the lovely sensations that coursed through her body just seconds ago. “This is rather new to me,” she admitted somewhat apologetically.
“What?” His grip around her waist tightened. “Don’t tell me…” He drifted off when he saw the answer on her face. “You’re insane, Lovegood. Certifiable.” Draco shook his head in bemusement and fell silent. After a moment, he asked her, “Do you want to stop?”
Touched by his concern, Luna raised her hand to smooth out the frown the creased his forehead.
“I’d like to continue, if that’s alright with you.”
Nodding his head, Draco lifted her up again until the tip of his cock was just barely inside her. Gripping his shoulders firmly, Luna braced her knees against the side of his hips and slowly slid down until he was sheathed inside her. Biting down on her bottom lip, she willed herself to relax around him and savor the feeling of fullness. It was really quite nice.
A shift of her hips let him know that she was ready for more. Each thrust came harder and faster than the one before, until he was practically slamming his body into hers.
“So good,” he groaned as she squeezed deeply around him with every rough slide of his cock.
“Please…more.” Her uneven cries sounded both strange and right to her ears. “Oh!”
The world burst into white light beneath her eyelids. Dimly, she could hear Draco’s hoarse shout as his hands tightened around her hips and he pushed inside her one last time.
Luna slumped forward against his chest. She might’ve fallen if not for his arm wrapped tightly around her. She toyed with the edge of his shirt as she listened to his racing heartbeat.
“Do you think the spell worked?” he asked her.
“I’m sure it did,” she replied. It suddenly struck her that she was quite naked, while he managed to keep all of his clothing on. Well, more or less. Her mouth tipped up in a smile and she slid her hand under his shirt, lazily tracing a pattern on his heated skin.
Draco recognized it right away. “A protection rune?” He shook his head ruefully. “It’s a little too late for me.”
“No,” she whispered against his mouth, as she touched her lips to his. “Never.”
