a little beat please.
breadboards, hacked toys, circuit bending, self-made media.... all very cool but i've seen very little music coming out of it all. oh dear yes, i just knocked noise-based music. that's unfair but i would like to see someone doing pop tunes on these things, crisp, sexy, rich melodical music. i guess that those key words don't describe much pop music either but the thought remains. after making some progress on the hacked tape machines i'm sensing why there's not much 'pop' coming out of the circuit bending scene - it's fucking hard. hard to get succinct, accurate samples. hard to get hi-fidelity. but then if you're after hi-fi why not go out and buy a big sexy synth that does it all without the soldering iron and smell of burnt silicon.
