This is what happens when you decide to stop checking the news on your favourite musician.
I thought, "Hey, Tim Vanhamel is taking a break from Millionaire. I've been checking up on things that might happen for the past year, and really all he's done is start up that strange avant-garde electronica duo. Maybe I should leave it for, oh I don't know, a couple of months, and check up some other time when I remember."
So tonight is the night I remembered, and what has happened in those few months I took a break and forgot about Tim Vanhamel? HE RELEASED A FUCKING SOLO ALBUM. I missed his solo release. Just listening to one of the songs now, and it doesn't even sound like typical Vanhamel - he's gone from crazy experimental rock with lyrics about wearing socks on your hands to sweeping strings and lyrics about his long term girlfriend breaking up with him. But the main point is, I MISSED IT.
So, other than that, I've seen lots of lovely, amazing things in the past month. I saw Rufus Wainwright at the State Theatre. He was brilliant, and for the encore he dressed up as Judy Garland (short dress, high heels, lipstick and all) and danced his way through "Get Happy". Then I saw There Will Be Blood at the cinema, and fell in love with the whole movie. Daniel Day-Lewis brings the awesome to any film, but the direction and the score (Jonny Greenwood, for those playing at home) and the story itself was just magnificent. I'd watched No Country For Old Men a few days beforehand and thought it was fantastic. But after watching There Will Be Blood, it's now become "No Country For what?"
And then Thursday night I finally got to see Interpol, at the Hordern Pavilion. They were truly magnificent. Epic music is always fantastic live. I especially enjoyed the fact that for a pretty moody, serious band, even Paul (lead singer) managed to crack a cheeky smile and look on in awe as the entire crowd cheered at the exact same time when they paused in the middle of the last song of the encore. And also, let be bring some bad news in telling you that Youth Group was the support act (during which for the first time in my entire life, I literally nearly fell asleep), and that they unfortunately mentioned that they've recorded a new album. Oh dear.
So now, another one of my pleas on livejournal that almost always go unanswered. But I try anyway, hahah. Queens of the Stone Age and Roisin Murphy are doing sideshows during this V Festival thing happening at the beginning of April. So, if anyone is willing to come with me to either of these shows, it would be greatly appreciated. More so the QOTSA show, because you know, I don't fancy going by myself to the Big Top in Luna Park, surrounded by big, burly skinhead QOTSA fans.
