[One would think, at this time, that Kotetsu Kaburagi would be sleeping. Those who truly understand him, though, would know otherwise. He's currently situated in the living area of their shared apartment, leaning against the couch, nursing a drink (alcoholic, of course), and sifting through the contents of the Dreamberry (how convenient.)

So when the Dreamberry updates, naturally, he sees his partner's dream. He debates,

Watch it, watch it, watch it or respect his privacy.

He can't help it, though. And amidst the flames and ever-apparent distress present within the images, he knows what this is.

He's in front of his partner's bedroom door before he even realizes it, quickly going through his options. How should he handle this? It's a delicate situation after all, and might actually require some forethought. Too bad that that's hardly his style.

He knocks once. Twice. And then turns the handle softly and inches the door open just enough for him to slip through it.]

Bunny... [And he stands there awkwardly, not moving forward, ( ... )

[At first, the knock on the door comes as a surprise, jolting him from his spiralling trail of thoughts to anchor him in that moment, almost disorientated as he looks up through his hair at the door, at the turning handle. But in a matter of moments he remembers who he's living with, and his surprise - for the most part - dies away. He understands there and then that Kotetsu has seen, that Kotetsu knows.

He feels twisted, conflicted, and too many emotions well up at once and leave him feeling even more marooned than he did before hearing the knock. Kotetsu speaks to him - he doesn't even register the nickname, for one reason or another - and he sits with his head in his hands, wishing he'd had a minute to collect and compose himself, to figure out how to proceed.

He tries to be angry, to let his frustration with the old man for prying into personal business govern him. But it doesn't work. His ire falls curiously short, and he doesn't care to puzzle out why right now ( ... )

[He's pretty much stuck like that, awkwardly situated near the door, shrouded in partial darkness. He can't find the words to respond, not to either of Barnaby's responses, nor to his clearly disheveled, fatigued appearance. Rushing in like this has left him, for once, a tad speechless.

Should he ask if the other is all right? No. He already knows the answer to that. No one would be all right with something so devastating hanging over their head, tormenting them. He wants to be there for his partner... that's what partner’s do, right? They help when the other is in need.

Call it meddling, call it whatever. He wants his partner back the way he was before. Torment free, and finally enjoying life.

He snaps to, his response leaving his lips before he can even think it through.]

Look like what? [And to play the part, he slaps on a grin and laughs a tight, humorous laugh ( ... )

[Kotetsu's smile is strained, his laughter taut. Barnaby's aware that it's not quite right, that the old man doesn't sound quite how he should - but he's not sure what it is, exactly, that's amiss. He fixes him with a calculating stare, as if second-guessing his presence here ( ... )
