Seasons and Food

Mar 13, 2007 12:06

So I've always been a food person, and I've long been a really seasonal person (by which I mean my memories and self equate very strongly with particular season, and especially the changing seasons) and now it turns out I'm a SEASONAL FOOD PERSON.

What does this mean?

In October, I get excited to make vats of chili and soup and stay warm in front of the stove. At this point in the season, the idea of another cup of chili makes me want to vomit. bleh.

Which is why it's awesome it's getting warm out. Here are some things I'm excited to eat this summer:
-corn on the cob
-tomato and avocado salad
-salad in general
-things that are grilled
-popsicles
-frozen grapes
-all the veggies Polly and I are going to grow in our community garden plot!!!! (Polly has more faith in the reality of these vegetables--I am more excited about the notion. My childhood gardening experience was hampered by the fact that I don't really like to move or be hot in the sun or take care of things, so my plants never grew).

I will also make a big pitcher of Good Earth iced tea and drink it all the time and open up our sun porch and open all the windows. The spring also always makes me want to be a hippie again like when I was in high school--so maybe I will put some some Bob Marley and light some nag champa while I'm doing all that.
