Dear friends. Especially those who are foreign journalists, writers and can give this publicity. More and more often Ukrainians travelling across Europe with absolutely legal documents such as Polish Schengen visas meet obstacles to their mobility in face of immigration officers who are obviously just robotic hands of politics. This is severe violation of Schengen agreement not taking into consideration such undefined issues as human rights. Since last year it was impossible to cross border in Hungary with visas issued by Poland although there are no regulations about this but if you were asking for explanations border officers switched into Hungarian and you had the only option to make a hook, enjoy landscapes of Slovakia and spend extra 50 Euros for petrol travelling to Budapest via Krakow. Now it became much worse, the situations look like following: people are stopped for documents check, asked for confirmation of reasons of their stay on the territory of EU (having legal 90 days per six month declared in their passports), searched, put under guard for hours and after that their visas are usually canceled. It’s kind of trap as having one Schengen visa in your passport you can not apply for another. This means that having long lasting invitation from business partner in Krakow responsible for my reliability it is only chance of luck if I will be able get to ski in Italy or to share a drink with friends in Barcelona. I feel like partisan doing something risky, crawling on my belly across “not existing borders”. But be aware, Ukrainians are experienced in partisan wars. What we inherited from Soviet times is of course fear, we are rotten to the bones with reasonable hiding in gray mob but we are also very good in silent fights, distincting lie of politics, being sarcastic to it and finding ways to go around it with all our flexibility. We have been trapped, pressed, jammed, starved to death, which made us patient, very patient until we explode.
Some people in Ukraine think this is a well planned intentional policy actually directed to making Ukrainian population explode, assassinate Yanukovych and liberate Tymoshenko. Bullshit, I tell them, you are too romantic guys. Politics are all the same all over the world. Nothing changed since times of Cicero. They don’t care about people. The only thing that differs European politics from Ukrainian that they are more educated, intellectual, experienced and therefore are better in hiding behind masks of tolerance and accurate, trained speeches. But you know what I should say our politics not because of their good will but as a consequence of their ignorance are just more frank with us in their not even hate but absolute indifference to citizens. A Polish journalist who said that you don’t need robots as long as Ukrainian maids exist was put under severe critics, OMG he was so rude to feeling of his closest neighbours. SO WHAT! Yes majority of Ukrainian women are good housewives, they make all to earn for living of their unemployed husbands and ungrateful kids. Well, quite normal, human desire of every mother from Senegal, Switzerland or Brazil which deserves respect. They know on the level of their maternity instinct that state of democracy and corruption is the same everywhere, in some places of the globe it’s just more pervert and elegant. On their meetings politics are definitely like couples making smiley faces in front of rest of the family while we, their kids, usually adopted know the real level of caring and respect inside this relationship.
I’m not going to show all receipts proving how much I’ve spent in Europe during last 10 years of quite intensive travel. I won’t list how many times I bittered explaining to another careless Erasmus student somewhere in my beloved Berlin what Schengen actually is and that Ukraine is NOT part of EU although geographical center of Europe, it’s nipple as my Australian uncle said, is in the heart of Carpathians. But I will never forget how many kind hugs and smiles I’ve met on my way, in how many great homes I stayed, with how many soul mates I shared food, drinks, chats and kindness. We cannot give politics a single chance to ruin these most precious things, these purities of the moments we gave to each other without hotel confirmations and restaurant bills.
Of course I can cheer my friends up and say that soon will be end of era of German and Polish immigration officers enjoying playing role of Russian roulette gun and having fun putting cancelation stamps into passports just because they had some kids traumas, like the noise of stamp which gives feeling of sacred power, heard from their grandmas million terrifying stories about nasty cruel Ukrainians based on real events between neighbouring countries and because they treasure this job is not even as “tough enough” for them to increase self-esteem but realizing they don’t have chances to get another one as Ukrainians and Moroccans occupied all illegal market.
This era soon will be over I will say. Next era will come - era of tracing. But don’t worry, this not gonna be Stasi style one with smell of your ass collected for dogs in special database. No, this era will be tolerant to everyone, it will take into consideration our human side and sexual tastes. If you are a girl you gonna be followed by James Bond looking man, he will be alive and not robotic, the best example of intellect, manners and perfect genes. One moment he will realize that it’s stronger than him and he is not able to report you anymore but it will be too late. You’ll also fall in love. You’ll come over all the obstacles and live happily ever after. You’ll be proudly holding your desired EU passport under your pillow, touching it every night checking if it’s not a dream and he will be shouting on every corner that greediness of Slavic wives is a myth as well as the fact that they only can cook and clean but perfectly well even comparing to maids from Volendam.
Of course your story will be worth of novels and films. But it will never happen, screening I mean, as there are too many boring movies like this and none looks like true story.
The truth is that cruel and ignorant people rule the world because kind and caring prefer spending their time in nicer company in cozier places. Although it kind of evil circle good news is that looking at statistics we are more.
And if regulations say that “Restrictions to freedom of movement and residence taken on grounds of public policy or public security shall be proportionate and based exclusively on the personal conduct of the individual concerned (i.e. he/she must represent a genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat affecting one of the fundamental interests of society).
