My sister infected me with strange, virulent Colorado germs during her visit here last week, and I've spent most of the time since then holed up in my apartment, tossing and turning in feverish delerium. Being inside all day has given me the chance to spy on my mysterious next-door neighbor and try to find out the reason for her constant shrieks of

I share your love for her, though I loved her in mojave 3, too. She was the reason to go see them live..
Still, though, you're right. she was definitely coolest in Slowdive. god, so hot back then. I loved those shows.

I made a little video of her performance of "save yourself," my favorite song off her new album, which you might be interested in checking out. My camerawork is a bit wobbly, though, as my body was in the process of slowly melting from the sensory overload of seeing one of my music idols in person.
Also, I found this amazing, 20 minute long interview with her that features clips from the show she played the night after the Dise ( ... )

The guy who made that interview (who runs brianwashed) is my friend Jon - he, too, was also @ the paradise show to see Rachel. He, too, was @ the same Slowdive/Catherine Wheel show @ Bill's Bar in, I believe, 1992.
Embarrassingly, we met at a Jesus Jones show in 1992.
I haven't even HEARD her album yet. I feel so old, lame and corporate that I missed this. Ugh.

2) In which megalopolis do you live, such that rent for a presumably one bedroom apartment is $1400
3) I seem to remember some story about a creepy guy forced to stay in his home who witnessed a murder by being a peeping-tom. Pervass.

2) It is a one bedroom apartment, and yeah, the rents in Cambridge are scandalous and outrageous. This is partly owing to the fact that Harvard and MIT own roughly half the city, making non-academic housing rather scarce. My building is a five minute walk from the center of Harvard Square, and is located right at the point where the Harvard-owned buildings end, so it's a prime location, and I had to fight (and maybe also kill) to get it.
All the sensible people live in Allston or Somerville, where the rents are much lower (and the rats more plentiful), and just bike or take the T into Cambridge. But I am not a sensible person...
3) This is actually my secret motivation for spying on my neighbor. I tell myself it is altruistic concern for her welfare, but no, no, what I really want is to uncover some horrible Blue Velvet-esque layer of crime and perversity lying just beneath the oh-so-pristine Harvard veneer of my neighborhood.

i can't believe your neighbor says those things loud enough for you to hear... that's amazing. that's mighty nice of you to think about doing a good deed for her, sounds like she needs one.

I just hope that my anonymous good deed does not backfire horribly on me - Sue is convinced that it will...
