Caprica's Clothes

Jan 23, 2010 16:06

I just watched the pilot for Scifi, ...err SyFy's new series Caprica, and i'm liking the feel of it: kind of looking to shape up as a mish-mash of Frankenstein and Jekyll & Hyde!

But what i thought was particularly nifty - even more so than in Battlestar Galactica -  were the clothes. The world you get a glimpse of is a lovely fusion of modern/near-future and 1920s, as evoked through suits and hats, trains and streets.

It's striking how such a little thing can disproportionately enhance the feel of a fantasy society - and more striking as how many productions fail to take such a little, almost costless, step toward embracing the other.

Also of note is how the actors seem to be cast (at least for the Taurons) ethnically, to reinforce the different  cultures in conflict.
