teaching is going well, and i think that after a month of supply teachers the kids are starting to calm down and focus a bit. today i laid down the law (as much as i could i suppose) and the lovely grade sevens argued with every. single. thing i said, and brilliantly. was i ever that persistent at their age? i think i've got the other classes

to answer your question regarding the migraines, i usually get someone to squeeze my head extremely tight and apply pressure to all of the many pressure points (if alone, just wear a really tight fitting ball cap), and then i get my nose inhaler (it's natural... containing essential lavender oil)and inhale it to no end. i take deep slow breaths through my nostrils (again, this is done through the inhaler), and then i try to meditate as best i can. it doesn't rid the migraine entirely, but it sometimes slows its arrival hence, getting you home in time to pass out and pray for sleep.
i used to take heavy medications and painkillers. it was the wrong route and i wouldn't suggest to do it. i'd rather curl up into a fetal position, vomit, and then cry my eyes out until it passes. all the while praying for a sudden death to rid me of the pain once and for all. i sometimes wish my brain would just explode... just imagine, the relief of pressure!
have you ever read oliver sack's 'migraine'? it's pretty interesting.
i think i might look into acupuncture- i've heard it really works. i hope i can only get past the fear of needles.

I'm not checking so much these days either...but thanks so much for the tips! I've been doing a bit of yoga to help - I can make you some photocopies from a book I find useful. Anyways keep in touch, maybe we'll see you at the Damo Suzuki/Riderless show if we can make it. The acupuncture is amazing but pricey - if you can get insurance coverage for it, I strongly recommend it. As for the needles - you just close your eyes and don't move (really! don't move!) so there's no chance for you to check out the needles being in you....just very nice feelings and usually a very refreshing nap.

in addition, i have some friends who want to learn to knit. what do you say to possibly starting a knitting guild. i want to make my own patterns and i never put the extra time into it. if i devote a chunk of time on a bi-weekly basis i think i might actually put some action behind my words.
let me know what you think.

you should really follow up on the possible fanshawe dealie. let me know how it goes.
regarding the guild, i think it's best to start a blog. that way, people can keep up to date and add their input on matters. i already have many interested people- friends, amnesty people, etc. having the meetings at your house would work and for nights it can't, i'm sure the fine folks at first st. andrew's united church would let us use their space (the corner of waterloo and queens). i haven't turned into a church junkie... i'm just connected through amnesty (i swear).
i'm going to get on the blog- i'll forward it once it's up. i'll need you to help me make it attractive.
