Fighting Cancer and Ending Domestic Violence

Jul 23, 2011 21:24

Whether you are a man or a woman, please help me help women and read all the way through! <3

Most of you probably don't know about the Mary Kay Foundation and its missions to eliminate cancer and to end the epidemic of domestic violence against women. Please feel free to learn more at the link below, but please also continue to read below for a very personal message from my heart.

Most of you also probably don't know that I am a survivor of domestic violence (first marriage, when I was only 18, details not really necessary, but suffice to say that I was belittled, raped and struck). But now that you do know, you might have an understanding of why this Foundation means so much to me. I have already supported the Foundation with both money and time, and plan to continue supporting it.

Part of my plan to support the Foundation includes my intention to donate $1 for every face on which I'm allowed to give a Complimentary Facial and Color Makeover, using (naturally) the wonderful Mary Kay skin care and color cosmetic products. I promise you I will never, ever, ever try to sell you something that you do not want or need or that you can't afford, and I will make this donation whether you choose to make a purchase from me or not. My goal is to be able to donate at least $50 a month through these efforts. If you have never tried Mary Kay products, or if it's been a long time since you've tried Mary Kay products, or if you do not currently have a Mary Kay Consultant, I sincerely hope you will do me the very great honor of supporting this worthy organization by volunteering 30 - 45 minutes of your time, and by referring your local friends and family members to me. And yes, we have a wonderful line of skin care products designed specifically for men!

I'll be uncomfortably honest - I *really* need the practice with the Makeover part of this whole thing. I've got the skin care portion down, although, as with everything else, more practice is always a good thing, but learning to look at someone's face and figuring out the best way to advise them on recommended products, contouring techniques and application tips that are most appropriate and effective for their skin tone, face shape and eye color and shape - THAT is where I truly feel somewhat lost. I mean, I'm supposed to be a Beauty Consultant, and I'm putting quite a bit of effort into watching videos and reading articles and books, but that kind of learning isn't a good substitute for good old-fashioned experience. Although I've been a Consultant for 6 months now (!), I've really only had the opportunity to work with about a dozen or so faces. Most of that is my fault - although I've posted quite a bit on Facebook, I haven't done a great deal to reach out directly to people and ask for their help and their opinions (about the products as well as my presentation).
