Ohwow. I can't believe I actually manage to get something up here.
It has been ages.
Title: All I Need
Pairing: Shuda/Sieg
Fandom: Rave

30_kisses #11 - gardenia
Disclaimer: Hiro Mashima still owns Rave.
Notes: In France, gardenia is traditionally worn by men as boutonniere in formal occasions. This is also pre-manga, featuring young Sieg as prince and Shuda as his surly bodyguard.
The party is lavish and extravagantly overdone, as all imperial parties are, the great hall full of people in expensive clothes. The ladies are wearing their brightest diamonds while the men have their arms decorated with the most beautiful dames barely old enough to marry. His father definitely did not hold back from displaying all the family treasures, brocades and tapestries hanging from the glass domed ceiling, the jewel encrusted silverwares and goblets overflowing with rich wine.
He is fifteen now, and this is his party. His father said so. Apparently, when you are the son of the Emperor, you don’t have much choice on how to celebrate your birthday.
"When are you going to get out there?" a deep voice belonging to a man hissed behind him. It is his bodyguard, Shuda, barely a man himself at the young age of seventeen. Shuda likes to imagine himself smarter and better than him, but really he isn’t. He’s just bigger and stronger, but not better and smarter.
"I've lost my flower," he answers cryptically, palming his left chest where his boutonniere of gardenias and lavender, the house crest, was missing, earning a scoff from his bodyguard. "I think one of the generals took it when I was accosted in the garden."
A strong hand suddenly grips his arm, pulling him into a deep alcove hidden by the shadows casted along the hallway. Everything is dark up here in the upper wing, everyone feasting in the great hall downstairs. Father believes the darkness will discourage anyone thinking of entering the more private areas of the castle.
Looking up at the face of his bodyguard, Sieg finds it curious to see the anger, and mayhap concernn, when previously it was only disbelief.
"Did someone hurt you? I swear to god if that’s not one of your scatterbrained joke I will find whoever-"
"No, goodness god, no," he quickly cuts Shuda off before the bodyguard could raise his voice, which he often does. Shuda does not really have the best temperament in the capital.
"Then what's this with the flower?"
"Back in the gardens, one of the generals approached me. Couldn't remember his name, looks like a bear. Almost mauled me like one too. No harm done though, really!" he quickly adds when the grip on his arm tightened. Honestly, his bodyguard hurts him more than anyone attempts to.
When Shuda figures he's not going to say anything else about the subject, he pulls away and sighs. "Have you gone socializing with the rich yet?"
"Yes. It's why that general cornered me."
"One day, you're going to tell me the whole story so I can beat the shit out of him."
"Oh dear, no. He's a general, for goodness sake. You're just a bodyguard."
Scoffing, Shuda crosses his arm. "Imperial bodyguard to the prince, in case you forgot. Personally appointed by the Emperor to ensure the safety of his majesty's heir."
"You don't sound jolly of your post," Sieg comments wryly.
"On the contrary," says Shuda. "I get paid for watching your arse. Living in a castle is like an icing to the cake."
It's difficult not to laugh at the redhead's words. At least his father has the good sense to hire someone near his age, never mind the completely surly and grouchy attitude.
Sieg turns to watch the light streaming in from the hall then at Shuda standing an arm away from him. It’s quite easy to reach out for Shuda and kiss him in the lips, startle his bodyguard with a peck to the lips then run away. He had done it once and he can do it again.
Catching his pensive stare, Shuda scowls darkly and turns him around.
“Go back to the party, why don’t you,” Shuda said.
Knowing defeat when it’s looking down at him, Sieg sighs in defeat and allows Shuda to march him back to the great hall. He’ll have to wait for another opening later, preferably after he gets Shuda adequately drunk.
