Unsung Melody

There was no one else he’d rather serve than his own sister, Helios decided. He’d shamed Lucian too much that the Romanov Don didn’t want to accept his apologies anymore. He’d done enough damage to the other families that not even one of them was forgiving in condemning him.
In the end, it was his own sister, the only person he’d hurt the most, that took him in and forgave all of his sins. She was the only one who easily accepted him. He found it unbelievable, and perhaps quite skeptical, when she demanded nothing in return. In fact, his doubt grew when she trusted him yet again as if nothing had happened.
“Helios, alert all heads now. Emergency meeting, pronto.”
But not even once did she take back her words or promise-promise that she’ll never let him go anymore. She never blamed it on herself when he left her side for the greater power; for she believed and knew he was at his highest consciousness when he let vengeance consume him. She was only disappointed at herself for not being selfish enough to stop him, something she thought she should have done.
“But we wouldn’t be at where we are now, if it wasn’t for you,” she had told him one fine day, when he’d reached the point that he couldn’t handle life anymore. “Shits happen because they just do. Now stop sulking over it.”
“Chris can’t come. I told Mikhail to stand-in.”
“Alright. Is that Mikhail on the phone?”
“No, it’s Jeremy.”
“Right. Hand it over, I need to talk to him.”
And now, six years have passed, and he’s still yet to leave her side-or she has yet to let him leave. But he doubted, with a wry, little smile, that he’d ever be willing to leave her now. Not when she can barely function in the right manner without him to organize her daily plans.
“Here, thanks.” Selene handed back his phone, her own blue-grey eyes glaring at the letter on her hand.
When she sighed, Helios sighed as well.
“Long day ahead?” He asked.
“Yeah. Damn Jeanne just had to be a moron.”
“What’s wrong?”
She shrugged as if it was no big deal, like she usually does whenever there was something problematic, then handed him the letter.
“Remind me to kick his ass when I see him. That damn bastard just had to cut off the honeymoon.”
“Perhaps he’s getting the cold feet?” He grinned, folding the letter without even reading it. He knew, even before Jeanne had sent the letter; Jeanne told him about it himself.
“Why did I even agree to marry this guy?” He heard her sister mutter forlornly.
“Well, getting drunk does have its drawbacks.”
“Shut up.”
“At least you didn’t get knocked up.” He joked, to which his sister replied with a fierce glare.
Yes; he’s quite happy at where he is now. Home is right where he truly belongs.
