And then my big code deployment day got cancelled and moved onto Canada Day weekend...
This has been a very, very bad morning. As in, my co-project leader and I sat in a meeting room for an hour plotting whether we could get drunk at work without repercussions (we couldn't, I had a dentist appointment tonight) and generally feeling despairing of life.
As things stand, the big code deployment this weekend has been cancelled and rescheduled for Canada Day weekend. Not due to my end of things. Nope, the source application did their performance testing this week (DO NO GET ME STARTED ON HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS THAT THIS WEEK IS WHEN THEY DID PERFORMANCE TESTING) and it's so horrendously bad that the users are in revolt and they've had to cancel while they work out a fix that doesn't break all the security.
I feel so happy about this, you can probably tell.
The business is now asking for the whole of Project Doom (not the 75% that was supposed to be deployed this weekend) to be deployed on Canada Day weekend. Which wouldn't be a problem except the 25% that's left was supposed to be tested on three months of production data before it went live that now won't exist so we've got some serious issues there. And that 25% was supposed to be deployed on July 9th anyway, so they've taken over a week out of our timeline on it.
*sigh*
My co-worker and I are furious. Not least because we'll be working the Saturday *and* on Canada Day. We both had plans (he was going camping, I had stuff on with Mum and my aunt) that now have to be cancelled and the initial communication was that we were only going to be comped with time in lieu if we ended up working over 40 hours in each week. So we'd get the time in lieu for working Saturday (because we'd already have done Monday to Friday), but as Canada Day week wouldn't end up as 40 hours of work, just us working a day nobody else is, there wouldn't be time off.
HOW ABOUT NO ON THAT?
Our boss is steaming mad about that and promising to work something out so we get comped with time and a half in lieu for all the time (not just the Saturday) because it's a holiday weekend and we're having to work a ton of overtime *and* cancel plans.
Neither of us are happy even though we're going to pick up a ton of banked overtime at this rate. Mostly because...plans! We had some! CANADA DAY WEEKEND, YO.
And also, the business now wanted accelerated timelines on some things that weren't supposed to be going live until later in July so that they can look a little less dreadful. I'm just...
June was supposed to be slightly lower stress than May has been. Instead it's likely to be *worse* if that's possible.
Excuse me while I beat my head against a wall for a while.
