It's looking increasingly unlikely that I'll get my week's vacation next month. I wasn't feeling too bad about declining meetings, but now there's a big community event that we should be doing and it's important for my yearly review and it's right in the middle of my vacation

But what if you've booked somewhere that costs you money and they cancel your holiday. That's not fair.

If I'd booked to be away, believe me not taking it wouldn't be an option! They're letting me count a silly short bike thing I did in July as my community event so I still get my vacation.

I got to used to my employer in England who often cancelled vacation if I hadn't booked somewhere. They wanted to send me on a training course during an SG con and were very angry that I refused to cancel that for them.
