Stuff. And other stuff

Kitchen progress continues, thankfully. We now have the dishwasher hooked up, which is both lovely and slightly odd after so many weeks doing everything by hand. The new dishwasher is unbelievably quiet and I think that's part of the unnervingness!

The microwave is also up. It's a combination microwave and range hood, so although it's up and capable of microwaving we are waiting for the guy to come in and sort out the duct work for the venting. Still, it's up and working and we've already decided that we love it because it's so much bigger than the old one so it's actually possible to get things in and out while wearing oven mitts. Yay!

That means the only major appliance that still needs installing is the wall oven, which should happen at some stage this week. On Friday night we went out and bought the tiles for the back splash, so my poor little car had to haul that little lot home. She's a very brave, good car for doing that. It was a lot of tile. Yesterday we also bought wood for the shelf that's going up above my main work space so the contractor should be able to get all the tiling and shelving done in the next couple of days. When that's done, he can get the electrician in to install the oven, under counter lighting and remaining bits like fans and pot light. The contractor is confident that we'll have everything done by the end of the week. Hooray!

The only cloud is the fridge. It was put into place on Thursday, so on Friday we washed it out and turned it on. By yesterday afternoon it had still not cooled down inside at all. Argh. GE are sending someone out tomorrow to look at it because it seems to be broken. At least we still have the old fridge!

Today we went to a BBQ at church after the service, so we decided that we'd only need a light supper tonight and that gives me a chance to try out a new recipe: http://blogs.discovery.com/tlc-steamy-kitchen/2009/12/warm-spinach-mascarpone-dip.html

I may be slightly excited about this recipe. Om nom nom!
