Probably not - the cable company has to activate the box (that's what they had to do when they installed the digibox last year, anyway) so they'll have to come out with the box, plug it in and fiddle to get it activated. Then they'll go away and I'll hook it up to the TV the way I want it :-)
Well, it's the same as if I had Sky over there. Someone would have to install and activate my box if you upgrade what you have for Sky. There aren't any free to air channels here (or at least, there are three and the signals are being cut off next year) so you have to have a cable package and it's difficult not to use their equipment if you want digital anything. Thus you need to use their DVR.
I have been considering a Tivo, but suspect that it wouldn't be easy to get installed properly. And for the extra features that Tivo would have (mostly the ability to tell it to record things over the Net), I'd have to pay a monthly fee equivilant to renting my DVR from my cable company. So I don't think that I'd win.
Still, at least a nice man will turn up with a box tomorrow and when he leaves it will all work without me having kittens and reading incomprehensible translated Chinese instructions.
