So it's the middle of the week, less than two weeks before Christmas, and this is a good thing. Got work to do (more on that later...) and the week hasn't sucked as much as I thought it would on Monday.
Amusement moment from yesterday: I was looking through a colleague's SQL to work out why he was pulling back completely different numbers from me, running the same query. I quickly spotted the problem that had escaped him for a day and a half. Oddly, November 97th doesn't exist :-)
Irritation from today: Da Big Boss (as distinguished from just Da Boss) returned from paternity leave on Monday. I put in an incredible amount of work and cleverness on the Really Big Project, which went into daily production on Monday. What do you think Da Big Boss's reaction has so far been to the improved accuracy, fast running and more useful data? Er, critisisms of the format of the emails. Specifically, how the emails print. He wants them to print landscape and in colour. Sadly this is impossible at the moment because the colour print servers don't work properly for Outlook (IT has already confirmed this...) and I can't magically affect the way he prints. Oh, well.
Second irritation from today: Da Big Boss, "Can you run that daily report for me and do the full analysis?"
Me, "Oh, that report you asked me to put on a back burner and build after Christmas because you had more important jobs for me?"
Da Big Boss, "Yes, that one. So, can you run it?"
Me: *tears hair out*
Guess what I'm doing today!
Little nice thing from today: New person started in the department. She's a Girl. We haven't had any of those here so that's rather nice. Yes, she's attractive and seems sweet. Ergo, she will probably be married or at least in a long-term relationship with a bloke that I can't hate because he's too nice.
I have watched part of this week's Torchwood wot I recorded. Didn't get to watch the final ten minutes due to parental needs for watching other things. Will watch the repeat tonight. Very much liked what I saw, though, and can't quite decide where it's going to go or where I want it to go. So am looking forward to watching tonight's repeat if I stay awake long enough.
I have fannish thoughts, but they're mostly incoherent thoughts on the nature of Torchwood fanfiction and why there's such a high proportion of dreck to readable. Would appreciate anyone else's thoughts on the matter to help me work out why the imbalance exists.
Am apparently channeling Briget Jones' writing style. Must now stop.
