In which we meet a new recurring character, a crisis makes buried resentments resurface and the case of the week is something that hasn't happened on this show yet. Incidentally, I can review this episode on schedule because I'm in Britain, whereas Elementary has to wait until I get back.

I hope the reverend becomes Cynthia's love interest. She deserves a love interest and is looking rather wistful about dating lately. Shelia used to look like that and look at her now! Jane found love too. It's Cynthia's time.

The episode made me cry. Something about Jacob wanting so much to be a man and being unable to. Was his relationship exploitive? I don't even know. Can mentally and physically disabled people fall in love? I think so but I don't know who would have cared for that baby had it lived.

I really felt for Jacob and his girlfriend. I felt for Sister Evangelina trying so hard to care for her brother. Sometimes . . . you can only do your best. But those live children were moving. We see them born on the show, but seeing them all grown, that's . . . that's Sister Evangelina's life.

I love this show.

Me too. It makes you care for all the characters, the regulars, the guests, especially in an episode like this. And wasn't that final scene sublime? Yes, there is only so much you can do, and there is no guarantee anyone's life will turn out good, but at the same time - so many children did go on to have good lives, and she helped them into these lives.

I think it was moving because it was Sister Evangelina who can be so tough and gruff. But she has a heart and it's Christ and midwifery. She loved that baby who was her brother and had such hope for him. Such hope for them all. Timothy! I didn't know she'd delivered him. It is moving. It was moving when we found out that Sister Monica Joan had delivered those twin girls last season. And she remembered.

Yes. This is sublime TV. Different in almost every way than something like the Wire but equally as fine and the reason I watch TV, really. And so unwatched!

Now I'm getting all emotional again. :-)
