I had an extremely busy day, and thus, only a few links for this post. On Monday, Breaking Bad won at the Golden Globe for best drama and best actor, which it so deserved, and that consoled me a bit over the fact Tatiana Maslany did not win for best actress despite her amazing turn in Orphan Black. Maybe it'll take four more seasons for her, too? ( Read more... )

And thanks for the fic rec! Especially as I keep second-guessing things I did in that fic, so it's nice to see appreciation for it again. :)

Slightly OT, but I was wondering if you were going to watch Sherlock this year, since I haven't seen you commenting on it. I found the third season very strange though generally stronger than the second, but that's having come to it knowing exactly what flaws to expect.

I have watched it and actually enjoyed it more than the previous ones, though I'm not emotionally involved enough to post on it. Nor do I have many thoughts. I mean: I liked Mary, loved the development for Molly, am still at a loss as to what is supposed to make the John and Sherlock relationship appealing (otoh Sherlock is far better now with everyone else), was amused by the Milverton/Magnussen-as-Rubert-Murdoch idea, did not feel this Sherlock's loathing of blackmail to be as convincing as either the original's or Elementary's, found the Holmes brothers interaction this time around pushing my button for dysfunctional sibling relationships, am mightily amused and approve of the normal Holmes parents jossing everyone's aristocratic loveless fanon creatures. (This reminds me of similar things happening when Draco Malfoy's parents, racist killers that they were, were also shown as committed and affectionate parents, and when Snape turned out to be from a small house in the industrial north instead of some House of Usher like "Snape ( ... )

Gotcha - thanks for summarizing! I think we broadly agree, though I was less pleased with what the show ended up doing with Mary. She ended up being defined by what she did for John and Sherlock rather than her own personality - the scene in which John recommits to their marriage by refusing to find out anything about her felt like it was saying something very different than the show thought it was.
