The time difference is playing havoc with my internal clock, I woke up and can't sleep anymore (it's in the middle of the night in Germany), which is why you're getting the second pic spam already. The Altai mountains cover a great deal of Mongolia, actually, but one particular part of them is between the Middle and the Southern Gobi, and that is ( Read more... )

This is really amazing. I envy you for being able to take this trip. Mongolia interests me. It's a part of Asia you don't often hear about. I'll be following your account with interest.

There will be many more to come. Three weeks with a triggery finger at the camera. :) No, but really. It was amazing.

I shall endeavour to fuel your envy further. Many more photos to come. :)

(It was definitely a geeky journey for me, too. First the Beatles, then Terrania...)

Wow, these just get more and more impressive, even with the demise of your camera!

Why do I keep hearing Doc Brown in my head going, "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!"? :)

These are all so gorgeous, whether by the late lamented camera or by cameraphone.

That shot of the camera-murderer with camels in the foreground may be my favourite: it's such a radical switch of landscape, from the green to the sand dune! It's almost as if the two landscapes are different sizes - I assumed the sand dune was much smaller until I scrolled down the picture.

I also loved the basketball game, and the mare's milk lady waving from the car park. Thank you for posting, and I hope you catch up on sleep!

Yes, the pictures don't really reveal how large the sand dune is, but the camels give it away. I certainly don't regret going there and drinking this stunning sight in, I just wish I'd have left the camera in the car before starting to climb!
