My overall favourite character to write for in any fandom remains Londo Mollari from Babylon 5. He's just so many things at once (though not always at the same time) in his canon, comic relief, villain, anti hero, hero, he's witty and heartbreaking and punchworthy and heartbreaking again and has the best fall and redemption story ever, and a really unmistakable voice which, once you've got it as your muse, just won't stop talking.
Most challenging: Toby Ziegler and Jed Bartlett. See, after I marathoned through the The West Wing, what I most wanted to read was a big story about their relationship, preferably set post series finale in which all the issues between them came up, and which felt true to both characters. And I looked and, well, next to nothing, and what there was didn't really do it for me. So I thought, self, try. I even had this idea about Toby, indignant in a "how dare you pardon me?" fashion, driving out to New Hampshire and ending up snowed in at the farm so neither of them could make a convenient exit after the first inevitable argument. And - well. I couldn't. These two intimidated the hell out of me. But that relationship so fascinated me that I couldn't not write about it, either. What I ended up writing instead was a short, short piece, which I do feel happy with for what it is: Words and the Men. It still felt like a far sweatier effort on my part than many a long story about easier muses!
OMG you wrote a Jed & Toby story? You are so brave. I love both characters and their complicated strained relationship but it would terrify me to write them. I'll have to read that one some time. I did always wonder how and when Toby and Jed reconciled after the pardon.
Yay! You're an Ellen Tigh fan. I only wrote one Ellen centric fic which was New Caprica based. I don't know how I'd handle writing Ellen after she woke up to her cylonhood. But it'd be an interesting challenge. Most of my BSG fic was Baltar centric. If you were to ask me this question, I think I'd have answered Baltar. I just loved getting into his selfish, snarky, woobie headspace. Roslin was the hardest! Though I always loved Laura.
I never watched Angel (mostly because Angel was always my least favourite Buffy character and I don't think I could tolerate Angel as the main protagonist of a show). But Connor is Angel's crazy son played by Vincent Kartheiser, right? I'm a fan of Vinnie (mostly for his work on Mad Men). Is Connor in the show a lot? I got the impression he only appeared for a few episodes.
Ooh, Warren fic too? The trio are honestly one of my favourite parts of Buffy. I always wanted to read Andrew/Warren fic.
Well, we were both very terrified of and very fascinated by Jed & Toby then. :)
Angel might surprise you in his own show; I started watching the spin-off for Cordelia, as I had no strong feelings about Angel one way or the other on BTVS, but he definitely surprised me. (The change of perspective and more dimensionality has a lot to do with it.) As for Connor, he's in his VK form in the entire fourth season (which is very much about him and Angel), as well as in three season 3 and two season 5 episodes. If you don't mind being spoiled, I wrote an essay about his character arc once.
You know, Gaius actually became my favourite on BSG after Laura stopped being it (though I still liked her), but I've never written his pov! I don't know why. I love reading it, that's for sure.
