The only thing I dislike about I Claudius is Patrick Stewart.

And the only reason I do is because I keep thinking "where have I seen that actor with that full leonine mane of hair before," and I it bugs me until I finally remember that Patrick Stewart wasn't always bald.

Actually I think he was bald at that point already, and Sejanus' hair was a wig because Herbert Wise didn't want a bald Sejanus. And I wouldn't miss Patrick Stewart playing a villain in the show for the world. :)

(andrastewhite once cracked me up when summarizing the show and when getting to the whole Livilla and Sejanus business summing it up with "...and one character's motivation for poisoning her husband is wanting to have more sex with Patrick Stewart. This is understandable.")

Oh good! Because losing that much hair would have been scary (if you weren't already the bundle of awesome that is in fact Patrick Stewart).

And, it is, indeed, understandable.

[But I still reserve the right to go "where have I seem that actor before?" every time I see Sejanus for the first time when I watch the show again.]

Brian Blessed is incredible in that scene, and like you, we use it as "evidence" for people who don't believe he can do anything but shout. Oh, I love I, Claudius!
