Heavenly Creatures was the first film directed by Peter Jackson I ever watched, back in the early 90s when film versions of Tolkien were limited to Bakshi cartoons and every reviewer felt obligated to call him "cult horror director P.J." before marvelling said director had produced a film which wasn't horror at all. I think you mean the William Monk series started with amnesia, not Thomas Pitt ones.

I met Anne Perry once; she came to my town on a book tour. I only heard about the murder (and watched the movie) much later. You'd never know, meeting her, reading her various series, or listening to her. You really wouldn't.

I would say I have no basis of comparison, but actually I have. I once took part in a program for prisoners and ended up having a fun debate about Harry Potter with a low key nice man. Later I asked the warden what this particular prisoner had done and he said: killed his spouse. So I can well believe you'd never know in a personal encounter!
