Um....

This morning I start to catch up with the internet and lo, there was much rejoicing because Benedict Cumberpatch was cast as the villain in the next Star Trek film. And then my inner Trekker kicked in and reminded me of something. Namely, all the Star Trek films. Whether or not you're an adherent of the even numbered theory, whether or not you are ( Read more... )

Completely agree. I enjoyed the first AOS movie, and hope the second one equals or improves upon it (ignores plotholes, etc., lalalala).

Since BC is getting the part Benicio del Toro refused, I suspect he is the reboot of Khan. That being said, everyone on my flist points out he has the PERFECT Romulan bone structure.

But Cardassians certainly make the best and most interesting ST (not-quite) villains, from David Warner who played Picard's torturer, to Dukat and of course our favourite tailor. BC would be GREAT in this.

(Variety says BC blew them away when he read for the part. Hehehehehe.)

Given how badly the movies handled the Romulans so far, I'd rather they didn't for a while. And the Cardassians were never seen on the big screen before, so surely, they deserve at least one outing? :)

If they do a reboot Khan, I wonder whether someone remembers that the timeline didn't splinter until after Nero, so the rebootverse still had the Eugenic wars happen in the 1990s...

Khan is still my favorite! I definitely see what you mean about needing the build up. Without that, there's just nothing. And an ambiguous villain like Gul Dukat is worth ten of the others.

Indeed. Honestly, I'd have prefered it if after the last film, they'd have done a new tv series using this crew because I think the tv format is just better for ST and layered characters, full stop, but of course the market won't allow it.

I wish they had too. But yes, the market. That's what's such a huge problem for Stargate, and you'd think fifteen successful seasons would count for something, even if it's not as many as Star Trek.

I'm glad to see a movie taking advantage of BC's already alien features - unless he's Khan which would be an odd choice - but yes, no one goes to see Star Trek for the villains. The plot's an excuse to see how the team interacts, I just always hope the villain doesn't distract too much from that. Beyond that it will be kind of interesting to see what Hollywood makes of BC, he's odd-looking and English so I imagine he'll be offered nothing but villains and aliens and villainous aliens.

Don't forget mutants and star ship captains. *looks at Patrick Stewart and his English bone structure* :)

what you don't watch the ST movies for are the villains

Hahaha, yes, that was my first thought. So I'm not about to get excited.
