I don't assume Bin Laden's death means the end of...well, anything, but there is a certain poetry in it happening less than a week after Obama apparently threw up his hands in frustration and released the birth certificate. I'm kind of surprised he isn't doing more to rub it in their faces.
I love that you brought Discworld - Vimes no less - into this and made it work. If I had to come up with an equally geeky counter-argument - Vimes had Carcer beaten. He'd won. The only other person in that graveyard was on his side, and Vimes didn't even know Vetinari was there until it was all over. He didn't still have to worry about any of Carcer's supporters or hangers-on. And then there's 71-Hour-Ahmed's opinion of cowardly murderers...
(Please not, the above was more for the sake of being able to reference 71-Hour Ahmed in a political discussion than anything else. I'm sorry, I just don't get chances like that every day.)
