Since I have a few new people on my flist, let me repeat last year's pimping of In the Bleak Midwinter as one of my favourite Christmas movies. Directed and written by Kenneth Branagh but not starring him, about a Christmas production of Hamlet in the provinces, featuring the usual Branagh suspects as the ensemble, witty and despite stern ( Read more... )

After, among other things, Torchwood and Lost, something lighthearted sounds like a pretty nice change, so yeah, I think I'll dip my toes into Merlin and see how it appeals! From what you mention, though, it's probably a good idea for me not to get too involved with the fandom itself - because character bashing is still the one thing that'll cause me to back out of a fandom real fast. In fact, while I haven't read any of your Merlin fics, I do admire you very much for swimming against the stream and writing Gwen fic anyway, from your own perspective, no matter what the rest of fandom thinks about it; personally, I think I'd lose courage very quickly. And I'm only now realizing how lucky I was that I kind of rolled into fandom via Babylon 5 (and then later Twin Peaks) where, at least at this point in time, bashing isn't an issue at all (okay, except maybe for Byron, but who can blame us for that? ;) )

Merry Christmas, and thanks for the Yuletide recs - the only fic I've had time to read so far is my own gift (which was a staggering 15,000 words and therefore took me a while :) ) so they'll come in very handy in helping me catch up!

Also - posting this less than 24h before Yuletide opened was probably not too strategic a choice, but in case you'd like a break from the Yuletide fics and are still in the mood for Lost, you might enjoy this John Locke POV on the Ben & Locke & Hurley fic I did before.
