That and this

Still catching up with the internet. I see that The Waters of Mars has won the Hugo, which pleases me. It definitely was the best of the year-of-interruption specials, and not just because of the last ten minutes. (Though I still think the DW endeavour by RTD that should have won for best short form was the episode Midnight in season 4, but that wasn't nominated - they went for Turn Left that year instead, and it lost.)

Speaking of the Whoverse, there's also a brief trailer for The Sarah Jane Adventures' new season. Blink and you miss the back of Jo's head, but it made me cheer. It felt weird to see Eleven with Sarah Jane, though, because I don't think my adjustment period to Eleven lasted longer than the middle of his first episode (with a momentary relapse during the dreadful iDalek episode later). I'll probably get over it after a minute of his SJA appearance, too, just for now I realized I subconsciously expected it to be Ten. (And may I ad: so glad David Tennant's last actual performance as the Doctor was in last season's SJA, because that was a gentle and lovely way to say goodbye.)

I also worked my way through various reviews of Tony Blair's memoirs as well as the excerpt printed in Time. The reviews were pretty scathing (and by the sounds of it, deservedly so - he really doesn't get what's wrong with Silvio Berlusconi?); the excerpt unintentionally hilarious. Naturally, Time picked Blair's take on America and American presidents. Let me paraphrase.

"I love America. To prove it, I'll use as many clichés as possible when talking about it. Frontier spirit, vision, leadership, leadership, leadership, vision vision vision. Now, about those guys at the top: 1.) Bill. Bill is brilliant and charming and I fell for him immediately. And damm it if he didn't seduce me all over again in Blackpool 2003 even though I was already in a happy relationship with George by then. Also? He weathered that impeachment thing and left office with an approval rating of more than 60%, unlike me, hmph. 2.) George. Stop calling George stupid, you meanies! A stupid man would never become the American president. Always knowing right from wrong is intelligence, too. Plus he's really manly and tough and decisive. 3.) Obama. I met him! He's as brilliant as Bill and as tough as George. And I'm sure he didn't mean it when he said not so nice things about George's Iraq policy."

...yes, I think Peter Morgan is on to something .
