fannish5: Which five canons would you want to live in, and why?

1.) The West Wing. (Mostly) honorable Republicans, (mostly) successful Democrats, a US (mostly) governed by reason, and even the Israeli/Palestinians situation doesn't look quite so hopeless. Also nobody makes healthcare = fascism comparisons, and after the Bartlet administration is over, CJ gets to save the world with lots of cash by the ( Read more... )

2.) The Sandman. Most endearing version of Death ever, that's why. I've lost some people already, and I like to imagine she was there for them at the end, and I like to imagine she'll be waiting for me as well.

Oh, God, yes. Me too. I really did quite want to write a story about Death collecting my Dad after he died, and in fact I'm making myself cry just typing that. But I find her comforting in dealing with the loss of fictional characters, and it turns out that I also find her comforting in dealing with the loss of people I love. Which is handy, since I'm an atheist & don't have the luxury of getting to believe in anything else as a bringer of closure.

Hey! I've been a member of a jury in a German film festival AND WE HAD PLENTY OF FUN! she says very seriously.

(Actually, we did, though it was stressful because it was a festival of short films, which meant I had to watch all contributions, which meant three days of short films from 6 pm to almost 12 pm. My fellow jurors drank beer and I drank tea, and in between breaks we got more and more silly.)

In other news: *shares the Death appreciation*

It was tough, but the good kind because most of the short films were really good and my two fellow jurors were clever and entertaining company. Lots of lively debates, but at the end we staggered out of the cinema completely drained and square-eyed and probably didn't go back there for at least a month.:) Oh, and one of the awards went to the guy who later won the Oscar for best short film for the same short film, so I can say I shook the hands of an Oscar winner. *g*
