Munich Film Festival III

Two quite different but memorable movies from last year, neither of them shown in Germany yet, so they premiered at the festival. Both were co-produced by the BBC, but that's about the only thing they have in common.

I remember when I saw Edge of Love being *shocked* that it was a movie about this complex female friendship, and then being so angry about the fact that I *was* shocked. It shouldn't be that unusual.

True. We shouldn't be conditioned to expect it to center around the romance(es), or for it to show the women competing.

Absolutely. Having worked on the Duchess of Devonshire, whose closest friend was actually her husband's mistress, I found The Edge of Love particularly interesting for this unusual focus. Funnily enough, Keira Knightley also was the lead in the Georgiana biopic The Duchess.

I read the biography some years ago (when asked for a pull quote). Fascinating. (And also, it was odd to encounter Caroline Lamb in a different context as a young 'un!)
