DVD Commentary Meme, II: Five Things Which Never Happened To Warren (BTVS)

Requested by bitterbyrden, this was the first time I tried the "Five Things" format, which is one of the best inventions made for fanfic - either by Te or basingstoke, I believe. It's also still, along with City Girls, the BTVS story I'm happiest with. Or stories. Anyway, it all started when andrastewhite and self were debating Warren, and how inevitable or not his story was. I always did love this story. Didn't I beta it for you? It's almost scary, the grip you have on Warren's voice and the way you have of making him alternately sympathetic and loathsome, occasionally at the same time.

Yes, you were the beta! And thanks. Given my first Heroes story was a Sylar pov and my first DW one a Lucy Saxon one, I probably should be worried...

Yes, this is exactly what I was hoping for. I love this story, I love this commentary. I hope it was cathartic for you to write.

Not for my cold, but it brought the Jossverse back to me! Glad you enjoyed.

You know, I seem to have missed this whenever you first posted it, or else, unforgivably, I had completely forgotten it. I am thus very glad of the chance to read it now, because it's extremely good, and the commentary was interesting, too.

I have only one even remotely relevant or intelligent thing to say, though, which is on this...

I know "bloody" is an English, not American thing to say, but as a pun it simply was irresistable.

"Bloody" is definitely English, but in my experience, it is a word that's not infrequently used, often in a self-consciously Anglophile sort of way, by American geeks who've watched far too much British TV. It thus seems quite reasonably in-character to me for Warren.

Since we know Andrew watched Doctor Who, it stands to reason Warren would, too, though he probably is more of a B7 fan.*g* Thanks for rationalizing the use of "bloody" for me!

And you know, I think I originally posted it before you friended me? Either way, thank you for the feedback.

I always liked this one, and your commentary's thought-provoking.

One thing which I ownder if we differ on is how much of a technological genius Warren actually is. I always thought at least some of the mad science and ultratech we get in BtVS was the result of the Hellmouth making the laws of physics more bendable and folk belief and story power having an effect. Whether he could have done what he did away from Sunnydale is a question that canon never answered.

The initial remark about Willow as what Warren was aiming for came from a poster called Sophie on the ATPO board, I just ran with it.

Andrew and Warren post-VIllains in fanfic - some amplification of this is one of the things I'm hoping for in the S8 comics later on. There's been a lot of criticism on feminist and simple moral grounds of the amount of power and respect Andrew seems to have in the comics and some of his behaviour, and I'm wondering if we're deliberately meant to be uncomfortable with it and if there's going to be a significant subplot about what his ( ... )
