Machiavellijr asked me. There is an embarrassment of riches to choose from, but I think hypothetical producer and headwriter me is going to go with The Macedonian Dynasty. With the potential spin-off/sequel after seven or so successful seasons: The Kommenian Dynasty, of course

Gosh! I knew there was a reason I never studied Byzantine history. I think I need a relaxing break with the Plantagenets after reading that. Brava for an excellent summary. This would definitely hook a Game of Thrones audience, even without dragons, though a quick burst of Greek Fire might substitute.

:) Indeed, who needs Dragons if they can get their hands on Greek Fire. (BTW, the "History of Byzantium" podcast does a great job explaining why Byzantium didn't use it more (and the many drawbacks if the conditions weren't right, which they were when they used it very efficiently against the besieging Arabs).
