I love the first two seasons of Torchwood with all my fannish heart, but they were not, overall, quality television. Children of Earth was quality television.

Frobisher is definitely a great character, and well-acted. I always found it interesting that in the end, he doesn't consult his wife. He makes the decision to kill his entire family for all of them.

Which says something about their marriage. Mind you, I always thought that like many a fictional civil servant in the spy industry, he probably even at the best of times never talked shop with her. (Probably had to sign the equivalent of the official secrets act. Even at the informal Torchwood Cardiff, Gwen insisting on telling Rhys the truth in Meat is treated as if it's something Jack isn't used to, as opposed to the alternative (retconning Gwen along with Rhys and dismissing her from Torchwood.) At a guess, Frobisher when deciding on the act probably told himself that this way, he spared her the terrible knowledge and the pain, she'd never have to face that horror, let alone live with it, and it is over in an instant. But it's revealing that he does not consider going ( ... )
