To be frank, I’m not keen on them being integrated all. For a variety of reasons ( Read more... )

A very good run down of the issues that are facing them here. There's also the issue of mutants suddenly appearing after ten years of no mutant, plus Agents of SHIELD although mostly ignore by the movies already use the inhumans in the hate and fear role that mutants usually have.

I've not read anything about it but I'm assuming they are going to reboot rather than continue the Fox continuity (such as it is with FC/DoPF and Logan muddying the waters) but they could do their own nonMCU continuity? People following your logic have suggest the X-Men really should have their own verse everywhere.

There is one specific advantage for a rebooted X-Men to have the other MCU characters to call on. They could finally give Rogue her classic 90s powerset and personality. The movie and Evolution cartoon got a lot of mileage out her just have absorption and angst, but Rogue is more than that it seems to me and giving her flight/invulnerability/strength and resultant confidence and sass is a fanboy wish of mine.

A complete reboot with various mutants being introduced bit by bit is probably the most likely thing to happen, if they're ready to give up on the current lot for good. Re: Rogue, am I misremembering or isn't a key part of her comic book backstory tied to Carol Danvers? Because if so, maybe she'll first show up in a Captain Marvel movie?

Rogue is very much tied to Carol. In fact, the flight/invulnerability/strength power set isn't Rogue's at all; it's Carol's, stolen when Rogue accidentally-ish* sucked her powers out and put her in a coma, resulting in amnesia and a comics-permanent** detachment from all of her emotional connections in her life up to that point, with a bonus Carol-ghost lurking in Rogue's brain and adding to her issues. It was a massive baroque melodrama in the prime '90s style, with a variety of good and bad beats. It might be too much for a movie, though a recast or animated version might work as a show on their streaming service. Full-on super-soap opera.

*Rogue was a bad guy at the time, so the attack was deliberate and vicious, but she didn't intend to go as far as she did.

* *completely permanent! Right up until a new writer wants to change that, oops.

Yeah, she was originally a villain in Mystique's brotherhood. She drained Carol/Ms Marvel's powers permanently and had a break down with Carol's memories in her head which led her to defect to the X-Men.

That sounds possible, though not the upcoming one since it was planned before the Fox deal, I think?

Presumably they will waste no time in introducing a new Wolverine.
