I was wrong, it turns out.
Not only does Sherlock actually go on vacation as he promised he would, but the show simply does a time jump to cover his three month retreat. (That Michael apparantly did stop murdering in between as also promised makes me wonder whether the show wants to go into "worthy foe" territory with him, which I'm uneasy about, because a) serial killer, and b) we already have Moriarty for that one.) The time jump also serves to go forward with the Joan-considers-adoption arc. At first I was somewhat disappointed that she would go for an unborn baby, but then Sherlock mentioned the obvious reason, that no adoption agency who actually cares about the kids would allow an adoption into an household where one part is a (recovering or not) heroin addict. The interaction between Kelsey and Joan, with Joan under the mistaken impression Kelsey is judging her when in reality Kelsey was getting inspired by her, was neat, though I could see that "Kelsey decides to keep the baby" decision coming; I mean, I watched Juno.
Still not sure where they'll go with this, especially if the kid Joan wants to adopt now will be an actual baby. Otoh of course I'm so there for the way the episode delivers on supportive life partner scenes between Joan and Sherlock. I've seen comments online wondering whether the show now will go for a Sherlock/Joan romance after all. That was not the impression I had. Kelsey asking whether they were a couple struck me as realistic; it would be something for her to wonder about, not knowing either of them. Of course, I could be mistaken, but the show producers have sworn for six seasons that Sherlock/Joan would not happen, and so far it hasn't, so they've earned some trust on my part they'll keep their promise further.
The case of the week was very Elementary - corporate greed + sins against the environment and the murder to cover up same. Again, I assume the thing with the bridges collapsing actually happened, whether in India or elswewhere.
