Legion 2.07

Despite two important things happening, I felt this one was mostly treading water.

Show, killing your one poc regular (okay, "uploading him into the mainframe", but same thing, unless uploaded Ptonomy then uses an holographic avatar of himself so the actor is still around): not cool. Also, the paranoia-inducing bugs are something we've seen about a thousand variations of in the genre, and this one wasn't original enough to be worth another take, imo.

Otoh, Future Syd meeting Farouk did mean narrative progress, as it cleared two things up: a) she's in fact future Syd and not a tool of his, and b) as has been speculated, including by yours truly, the reason why she wanted David to help him is that in her timeline, after David has killed Farouk, David becomes the apocalypse-inducing evil overlord, so she's banking on a surviving Farouk killing David instead. (What her plan thereafter is to contain Farouk, we don't know yet.) Since this is just about the sole motive that makes sense of Future Syd's insistence of keeping Farouk alive despite the terrible damage she inflicts, I'm pleased the show went this way. Also looking forward to present day David finding out. Syd has been his emotional touchstone and his trust in her so unconditional that the idea she's planning for his death will probably be a bigger shock than the idea he's capable of becoming an evil overlord. (I wouldn't be suprised if that event is what sets him on the path to overlord-dom, though I hope not.)
