Biographies: the one I used to refreshen my Medici and Valois knowledge was Leonie Frieda's "Catherine de Medici: A Life", which is one of the more recent ones and while not extraordinary quite readable. If you want to check out some more internet links, the blogger Aelarsen wrote a couple of articles on Chereau's movie "La Reine Margot", in which he compares it to its historical background and gives a good overview about the St. Bartholomew massacre at the same time: This is a take on the whole movie as compared to history, this entry focuses on the death of Charles IX in the movie versus history, and here you have a take on De La Mole (Margot's love interest in the movie) versus history.
I've also read a couple of novels about Catherine but wasn't completetely content with any of them, no offense to the authors, while all have also elements I appreciate.
