I'm all conferenced out; yesterday was the last day, and in the evening I had the chance to catch the Doctor Who season premiere on BBC America. Since my head still half crowded with academia and the transatlantic sense of being out of time hasn't abated yet (and won't have a chance to, since I'm flying back today), I'm feeling a bit groggy, so ( Read more... )

I liked it a lot - I've a feeling the tank will turn out to be a Chekov's gun at some point, and that Missy may be slowly drifting in the direction of becoming less evil while trying to deny it.

The tank, or the Time Lord Messogram thingie which supposedly only opens upon death.

Also, how long before the first Clara/Jane Austen story, pray?

Alas, the author is right: it is terrible! Still, it's good to know that a start is made. :)

You know, even though from an outside perspective it doesn't feel like there's any real chance of the Doctor actually changing history to erase Davros and the Daleks, within the story I'm totally buying into it. Which I think is an indication of good writing.

And character-wise, Capaldi's Doctor seems capable both of doing it and not be able to bring himself to do it, so it works very well at this point, anyway.

I think if there was a critical point in history which would effect the entire universe this blaster shot would be it.

After all, the later part of the Fourth Doctor's monologue about the good the Daleks wrought by bringing people together in opposition to them.

[Although I strongly suspect he is actually going to use the blaster on the handmines and actually rescue Davros.]

I really like Michelle Gomez's portrayal as the Master.

Clara being impressed by the Doctor was nice to see.

We get to see the Twelfth doctor say "dude" and play an electric guitar.

They were the highlights for me. Colony Sarff creep me out though, even topping

the handmines.
