Transatlantic twelve hour flights: made for movie marathons. So, en route to Los Angeles, I watched:

Spy: was as amusing as I was told, and made for someone like yours truly who enjoys both feminism and the occasional Bond film (and spoof of same, not for nothing is Our Man Bashirone of my favourite DS9 episodes). Melissa McCarthy rocked, and ( Read more... )

Oh! Ok, this is largely irrelevant, but - Drei Nüsse für Aschenbrödel! I think that's the version of Cinderella I've been looking for forever! I saw it once on TV in the states, probably in the mid/late '70s, and was mesmerized. And of course once it was possible to get things on tape/DVD, all I could remember was that it was Czech, Cinderella met the Prince while hunting, and the Godmother gave her 3 nuts to make the magic with, none of which was actually helpful in tracking it down. Thank you!

That is the very movie. And it is available on region 2 DvD! Czech fairy tale movies and tv series were the best if you were a child on the 70s....

Yes! I have a copy winging to me even now! There was so much snow in it, as I remember! (Well, a lot of snow for a kid from the southern US.) And lovely costumes.

Empire really should have got Zahrawithaz to do their advertising for them because now I want to watch it.

That description hooked me, too, back when she gave it, so I was delighted when I saw the inflight entertainment had the pilot in the offering!

We really enjoyed Spy when we saw it here. It did a great job of subverting preconceptions, both from the characters and the audience. I loved the way Susan's story played out without it seeming entirely unbelievable that she would be a good field agent. A nicely thought out film.

Chiming in on the Three Nuts love! It's shown every Christmas in Norway and I love it dearly. <3

I won't be in Norway this Christmas and that is TERRIBLE. How will I get my yearly Awesome Hunter Cinderella now?

Subtle, no. Super fun, yes. And I had no idea it was based on TLIW but now you point it out, I see, duh, of course it is. I think I've seen that movie 5 or 6 times, which is a lot, for me.
