Some vids and a quiz

I strongly suspect one of the reasons why, by and large, I like the cinematic Marvelverse better than the DC-based movies, is that while DC ever since Nolan made his first Batman movie puts all their money on grimdark (both in themes and look) and shies away from anything looking remotely like it could be perceived as camp, the Marval guys embrace ( Read more... )

I got 10 out of 13. Clearly I am not the Beatles expert that I like to think I am!

Which Rolling Stones single John and Paul sang backing vocals on, which single beat out Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane, and which song was not banned by the BBC.

Mine (i.e. the one I got wrong) was, of all the issues, the first album with solely Lennon/McCartney composions. *facepalms*

Liked the Marvel vid. Yeah, the Marvel films have a sense of fun that DC has sort of given up on. I'm pretty sure there's a lesson in there.

You can justify stories around Batman being bleak, I suppose, and I can even understand the fear of the Joel Schumacher effect, but turning Superman into a non-stop angstfest (where the main character totally ignores that duking it out with the villains destroys Metropolis, when this particular character has previously been defind as someone who'd rather look like a coward if that keeps civilians safe and lures the villains away from populated areas) was uncalled for. Other than by the fear the film wouldn't find an audience otherwise. Which is ridculous. Evidence not just being the Marvel movies, but Lois & Clark, which gleefully used the comedy aspects (while taking the emotions of the characters serious), being an incredibly successful tv version of the Superman saga.

The backing vocals on the Stones song, the song that beat "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields", and the first post-Beatles #1, which I should have been able to guess.

Ha, the Engelbert Humperdink song beating that single is in my memory because George Martin still takes that really personal (more than the boys ever did) and has been known to rant about it in interviews. And which song was your guess for first post-Beatles #1?
